Carrington College™, formerly known as Apollo College, is a privately held institution of higher education. Carrington College, along with co-operating division Carrington College California, is owned and operated by Carrington Colleges Group, Inc. a part of DeVry Inc. The college offers practical, real-world education and hands-on experiences in allied health care at its 10 campuses throughout the Western U.S. and online.

History

On June 30, 2010, Apollo College changed its name to Carrington College to better reflect its educational quality and emphasis on health care programs. Margaret M. Carlson founded Apollo College in 1976 in Phoenix, Ariz., in order to prepare graduates for careers in skilled professions. Apollo College grew to 10 campuses in Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. It offers associate degree and certificate programs onsite, as well as online. In December 2003, Carrington Colleges Corporation, a California-based company, acquired Apollo College. In September 2008, Carrington Colleges Corporation was acquired by DeVry Inc.

Mission

The mission of Carrington College is to prepare graduates to become health care professionals with the knowledge and skills to assume entry-level positions in the health care industry. [2]

Curriculum

Apollo College is not an accredited college, but offers the following degree, diploma and/or certification programs. Each program and its availability may vary slightly based on state, location and board regulations.

Dental Assisting

Certificate, Associate Degree The dental assisting program teaches students charting, instrumentation and lab procedures in a classroom setting, as well as a hands-on externship in a medical facility. The dental assisting program is offered at Carrington College Albuquerque, Boise, Mesa, Phoenix North, Portland, Spokane and Tucson campuses. [3]

Dental Hygiene

Associate Degree The dental hygiene program teaches students to examine teeth and gums, identify presence of disease or abnormalities, take and develop X-rays, and remove calculus, stains and plaque from teeth. The dental hygiene program is offered at Carrington College Boise, Mesa and Portland campuses. [4]

Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Certificate The diagnostic medical sonography program trains students for the highly specialized field of medical imaging and ultrasound technology. This program is offered at the Carrington College Mesa campus. [5]

Fitness Training

Certificate The fitness training program teaches students to provide personal training, explain the use of all types of gym equipment, lead group fitness classes and instruct on proper nutrition. The fitness training program is offered at Carrington College Albuquerque, Phoenix North and Tucson campuses. [6]

Health Care Administration

Associate Degree The health care administration program presents students with knowledge of medical terminology, introduction to anatomy, pharmacology, professional development and the measurement of vital signs. The health care administration program is offered at Carrington College Albuquerque, Boise, Mesa, Phoenix North, Portland, Spokane and Tucson campuses. [7]

Massage Therapy

Certificate, Associate Degree The massage therapy program teaches body practitioners to offer safe, positive, healing touch to patients. Students study Swedish massage and energetic therapies, human anatomy and physiology, professional ethics and communication and the business of massage. The massage therapy program is offered at Carrington College Albuquerque, Boise, Mesa, Phoenix North, Portland, Spokane and Tucson campuses. [8]

Medical Assisting

Certificate, Associate Degree The medical assisting program teaches students to assist medical professionals as they examine and treat patients, as well as perform essential office administrative duties. The medical assisting program is offered at Carrington College Albuquerque, Boise, Mesa, Phoenix North, Portland, Spokane and Tucson campuses. [9]

Medical Billing & Coding

Certificate, Associate Degree The medical billing & coding program teaches students health information technology, and collecting, maintaining, organizing and interpreting essential data. This program is offered at Carrington College Albuquerque, Boise, Mesa, Phoenix Westside, Portland, Spokane and Tucson campuses.[10]

Medical Laboratory Technician

Associate degree The medical laboratory technology teaches students to conduct a wide range of tests to provide accurate processing and assessment to health care professionals. Students are trained in the classroom and laboratory environments to perform essential lab procedures and determine the outcome of the tests. The medical laboratory technology program is offered at Carrington College Phoenix Westside and Tucson campuses. [11]

Medical Office Management

Associate degree The medical office management program trains students to plan, direct and coordinate the delivery of health care – from supervising personnel to planning and implementing office procedures to delivering superb customer service. The medical office management program is offered at Carrington College Albuquerque, Mesa, Phoenix North, Spokane and Tucson campuses. [12]

Medical Radiology

Associate degree The medical radiography program teaches students to work in a wide variety of areas where radiology is used to help diagnose trauma or disease. This program is offered at Carrington College Phoenix Westside and Spokane campuses. [13]

Pharmacy Technology

Certificate, Associate degree' The pharmacy technology program teaches students technical and practical skills to work as assistants to licensed pharmacists. The pharmacy technology program is offered at Carrington College Albuquerque, Boise, Mesa, Phoenix North, Portland, Spokane and Tucson campuses. [14]

Physical Therapy Assistant

Associate Degree The physical therapist assistant program teaches students to work under the supervision of a physical therapist to help patients restore physical function, relieve pain, and prevent further disability through exercise and other therapeutic treatments. The physical therapist assistant program is offered at the Carrington College Boise and Mesa campuses. [15]

Physical Therapy Technology

Certificate of Achievement The physical therapy technology program teaches students to help patients recover from illness and injuries. Students learn about treatment programs to that restore muscle function, relieve pain, or prevent disability following disease, injury or loss of body parts. The physical therapy technology program is offered at Carrington College Mesa, Phoenix Westside and Tucson campuses. [16]

Practical Nursing

Certificate The practical nursing program is an entry-level program that prepares students to care for patients and assist physicians. Students are trained in various disciplines related to nursing through theoretical classroom learning and real-world clinical experience. The practical nursing program is offered at Carrington College Boise and Portland campuses. [17]

Registered Nursing

Associate Degree The registered nursing program includes training for the entry-level practical nursing program and advanced instruction with hands-on experience for the associate and bachelor degree nursing program. The curriculum builds upon general education courses to give students a base of critical thinking and technical skills, providing diverse perspectives and insights from humanity and social science fields. The registered nursing program is offered at Carrington College Albuquerque, Las Vegas, Phoenix Westside and Reno campuses. [18]

Respiratory Care

Associate of Science Degree The respiratory care program teaches students the exploration of respiratory therapy, research, management therapy and includes advanced clinical experiences. This program is offered at Carrington College Las Vegas, Mesa and Phoenix Westside campuses. [19]

Veterinary Assisting

Certificate of Achievement The veterinary assisting program teaches students to treat illness, mend injuries, improve nutrition and increase the happiness and the life expectancy of animals. This program is offered at Carrington College Mesa, Phoenix North, Portland, Spokane and Tucson campuses. [20]

Carrington College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), 750 First Street NE, Suite 980, Washington, DC 20002, (202) 336-6780, to award Bachelor’s degrees, Associate degrees and certificates of achievement. The ACICS is recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Many of the programs offered at Carrington College are programmatically accredited by accrediting bodies with expertise in specific occupational fields. Programmatic accreditation is specific to individual programs offered at each campus. [24]
