Alter Bridge III is the working title of the upcoming third album by the rock band Alter Bridge. The album will be released possibly in September of 2010, according to guitarist Mark Tremonti's Twitter. It was also announced that Michael Baskette, who produced Blackbird, the band's second album, will be producing this album as well. The band describes the new music as very dark, heavy, and dynamic.

Background

Regarding the recording and mixing of the album, this is what lead singer Myles Kennedy told fans on a popular blog post[2]:

It was done different from Blackbird in the sense that we didn't have as much time to arrange as a band. You know, the parts had been evolving over quite some time. Mark and I are always writing and stockpiling ideas, but as far as sitting with the band and really fleshing those ideas out, we literally had, I think, about six weeks total to get that going before we started working [producer] Elvis [Baskette]. And I think it actually worked out well, because it's a very a spontaneous record, and I think with music–with art in general, I think sometimes if you over-think something, it can have a negative effect, and I think capturing the lightning in a bottle comes from just not over-thinking things, so we didn't do that on this record.

The band announced via MySpace on June 21, 2010 that the recording process for the album was entirely finished and that all that is left is to decide on the title, track listing, official song titles, and official album cover art.[3]

Kennedy has been touring with Slash as the lead vocalist for the guitarist's touring solo band, but according to Michael Tremonti, Alter Bridge's fan liaison and Mark Tremonti's brother, he will fly back to the United States after Slash's tour in Russia to participate in a new photo shoot that will be used to promote Alter Bridge III. Michael Tremonti also stated on a fan-run Alter Bridge website, alterbridgeband.net, that the band, as of June 10, is still working on the number of tracks and song titles but that the time that a final decision will be made is drawing near. He also stated, "A HUGE piece of the puzzle, business-wise, clicked into place on Friday [June 9]."[4]

In an exclusive "Guitarist Uncut" interview with www.musicradar.com, Kennedy stated that the album will be very dark lyrically, and said that it "deals with a lot of doubts" and that musically, there are "moments that have that intensity and have that darkness to it."[5] He also said that he will be playing more lead on this album. He said, "I'm definitely doing things I haven't done in a long time as a guitar player."

According to several sources, Alter Bridge III will be released through Roadrunner Records, making all three of the band's albums to be released through a different label. However, the deal with Roadrunner is more likely to be for the European release of the album with the group still with the Universal label in the US. Also announced was a North American tour in March with Godsmack.[1]

Song titles

Kennedy, in the same "Guitarist Uncut" interview, confirmed that as of July 13, Alter Bridge has still not yet decided on any official song titles, but he said that "Isolation" will most definitely make the album. He also confirmed three other working titles: "Show Me a Sign," "Ghosts of Days Gone By," and "Slip to the Void."[6]
