Mukesh Ambani (born on April 19, 1957 in Aden, Yemen)[1] is an Indian business magnate, philanthropist and the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries,[5][6] the largest private sector enterprise in India and a Fortune 500 company.[7] His personal stake in Reliance Industries is 48%.[8]

As of July 2010, he is the richest man in Asia[9] and the fourth richest man in the world with a personal wealth of US$29.0 billion. On 29 October 2007, there was a strong bull rally in the Indian stock market and the appreciation of the Indian rupee, which boosted the market capitalisation of all reliance group companies in which Mukesh Ambani has a very significant stake resulting to make him the world’s richest man[10], with net worth climbing to US$63.2 billion leaving Bill Gates behind at around $56 billion.[11] [12]

Personal life

He is married to Nita Ambani and has three children, Akash, Anant and Isha.[14] He owns the Indian Premier League team, the Mumbai Indians.

Career

He joined Reliance Industries in 1981. [15] He initiated Reliance's backward integration journey from textiles into polyester fibres and further into petrochemicals, petroleum refining and going up-stream into oil and gas exploration and production. He directed the creation of the Jamnagar Refinery. Mukesh Ambani has set up one of the largest and most complex information and communications technology initiative in the world in the form of Reliance Infocomm Limited (now Reliance Communications Limited).
