---|
La Dispute is a five piece band from Grand Rapids, Michigan.[1]
The band released their debut EP, Vancouver, in 2006 on Friction Records,[2][3] followed by an untitled 7" in 2008 on Forest Life Records,[4] and a series of releases: Here, Hear on mini CD on Forest Life Records and Here, Hear II on 7" through No Sleep Records, both in 2008.[5] Most recently they released Here, Hear III in 2009 through digital download.
Their LP debut Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair was released November 11, 2008 on No Sleep Records.[6] It was well received by critics, with positive reviews from AbsolutePunk,[7] Alternative Press,[8] Punknews.org,[9] Sputnikmusic,[10] and others.[11][12]
The band is currently working on another LP, as well as two split 7" records, one with Los Angeles based Touché Amoré,[13] and the other with Koji.
Their music has been compared to Circle Takes the Square and mewithoutYou.[1] They were named by Alternative Press as one of "The 100 Bands You Need to Know" in their April 2010 issue, saying
"La Dispute are more than a band; they're veritable artists, concentrating deeply on every aspect of their songs. Musically, their fully developed, experimental melodic-hardcore compositions paint passionately lush soundscapes."[14]
The band is said to be a part of the new wave of melodic hardcore, most notably called "The Wave"[15], with fellow melodic-hardcore artists Defeater, Touché Amoré, Pianos Become the Teeth, and Make Do and Mend.
