Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is a new dramatic television program coming to NBC in the fall of 2006. The show takes place behind the scenes at a fictional sketch comedy variety show, similar to Saturday Night Live or MADtv.

The show was created by Aaron Sorkin (Sports Night, A Few Good Men, The American President, The West Wing) and thirteen episodes have been ordered.

Casting

According to a report in Variety on January 27 [1], three main roles have been cast. Matthew Perry (Friends) will play the lead character, Matt Albie, an ex-writer for the show who is asked to return when the executive producer is fired. Steven Weber will play Jack Rudolph, head of the fictional UBS network which broadcasts the show. D.L. Hughley will play another cast member of the show, Simon Stiles.

Timothy Busfield and Michael Stuhlberg have joined the show according to The Futon Critic [2], it is widely speculated that they are to play Cal and Jerry Jones, respectively. Busfield is perhaps best known for his role as Danny Concannon, in Sorkin's famed Drama The West Wing

Amanda Peet has been cast in the lead female role. She will play Jordan McDeere, recently appointed President of UBS.

Nate Corddry has also joined the cast. He will play Tom Jeter, a cast member of the show within the show.

Evan Handler will play Ron Oswald, while Carlos Jacott will play Ricky Beck. Both are co-executive producers on the show.

Several main roles are still to be cast, namely: Danny Moore, Harriet Hayes, Martha Moyer, Wes Mendell and Wilson White.

Sorkin and producer/director Thomas Schlamme offered a major role to Bradley Whitford, who wished to accept, but couldn't commit due to the future of his current show, The West Wing being up in the air at the time. Since that point, it was announced that The West Wing has been cancelled by NBC. It is unclear how this affects casting for Studio 60.
