Template:Infobox Norwegian station
Ås Station (Template:Lang-no) is a railway station located at the village of Ås, Norway on the railway Østfoldbanen. The station is served by commuter trains between Spikkestad via Oslo to Moss with half hour or hourly headway by Norges Statsbaner.
History
The station was between in 1877 and 1888 as part of the Østfold Line,[1] and was drawn by the architecht Peter A. Blix in swiss architecture style.[2] When the stretch between Ski Station and Moss was extended to double track in 1992, Ås Station received a major renovation.[3][4] In 2006, a cultural meeting place was established inside the station building, initiated by the "Galleri Texas".[5] The building is located in Brekkeveien 4,[6] and houses a tiny café known as "Kafé Åsheim",[7] an art gallery,[8] and a small gift shop.[9] The café is open from 06:00 - 21:00 on workdays, and serves local commuters riding to Oslo in the morning, as well as dining and lunch guests from the area.[10] In the weekends, there are sometimes arranged conserts with local bands and musicians.[11][12]
There has been some controversy between the local organisation Galleri Texas and the state-owned corporation Follo Futura, regarding which of them should operate the café.[13] Follo Futura, which together with the Norwegian National Rail Administration and ROM Eiendom officially owns the station building, wanted to overtake the café business, arguing that they were better fit to do so, since Galleri Texas did not have the economical capasity to run the café with the art exhebition and gift shop the whole week.[14] The local community wanted Galleri Texas to operate the café, arguing that replacing the integraty of the local company with a governmental one would weaken the local and patriotic spirit of the café.[13][15] In 2010, smoke was tumbling out of the station, but it turned out that it was only a cigarette that had not been quenched, and had been laying overnight in a flower basket.[16]
Facilities
The station is designed like the most other stations on the Follo Line, except from the earlier mentioned station building, which dates back to 1877. There is step-free access to the platforms.[17] [18] The walkway over the tracks in the south end is built in gluelam, and makes together with the starways down to the platforms one minimalistic construction.[18] The walkway in the north end goes under the tracks.[17] The platforms have sheds and ticket machines.[17] The station's parking place has place for 200 cars and 8 bicycles.[19][17] The nearby bus terminal is operated by Akershus Kollektivterminaler.[20] It is located north of Vestby Station and south of Langhus Station on the Follo Line, 38,65 kilometres from Oslo Central Station.[21]
Service
Ås Station is served by the line 550 towards Moss of the Oslo Commuter Rail, which is operated by the Norwegian State Railways.[22] The line runs between Spikkestad and Moss, through Oslo on the Spikkestad Line and Follo Line, respectively.[23] The service has three southbound stations before reaching Moss; Vestby, Sonsveien and Kambo.[24] The travel time to Oslo Central Station is 28 minutes and to Moss 21 minutes.[25][26] The public transport authority Ruter operates bus services to the station from the conurbations in and around Ås.[27]
