It operates digital wireless, wireline, and both terrestrial and submarine fiber optic networks, serving markets that are geographically separated and technically challenging, such as the plains, deserts, and mountainous areas of the United States.

ATN also operates through its subsidiary companies: Allied Wireless Communications Corporation d/b/a Alltel (US), Commnet Wireless, LLC (US), GT&T (Guyana), Sovernet (US), Bermuda Digital Communications (Bermuda/T&T), ION Holdco, LLC (US), Islandcom Telecommunications (Turks & Caicos), and Choice Comunications (US Virgin Islands).[1]
Acquisition of Verizon Wireless assets
On April 26, 2010, ATN aacquired certain former Alltel wireless assets that Verizon Wireless was required to divest as part of the regulatory approvals granted for its purchase of Alltel earlier that year. Under the terms of the agreement, ATN serves over 800,000 subscribers primarily in rural areas across Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Illinois, Ohio, and Idaho. As part of the transaction, ATN will operate under the Alltel brand.
