Peter Cianchette

Peter Cianchette is the 56th United States Ambassador to Costa Rica. He was sworn in on May 8, 2008, after being confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate on April 29, 2008.

Public career

A former two-term Maine State Representative (1996-2000) and Republican candidate in Maine's 2002 gubernatorial election, Ambassador Cianchette made economic development a cornerstone of his policies.

Private life

A community and civic activist, Ambassador Cianchette served as a Director on the Boards of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine and Maine Education Services. He also served on the Republican National Committee and as a Maine Health Corporator. He has served as Director of the Greater Portland Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Boy Scouts of America/Pine Tree Council, the Portland Chamber of Commerce, the Southern Maine Community College Foundation, and YES! to Youth. He has also served as President of the Maine Better Transportation Association.

Ambassador Cianchette earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at the University of Maine. He currently resides in Maine with his wife Carolyn and their two children, Evan and Maria.
