"'''Comment''' Mattinbgn naming conventions state that for places which have multiples such as South-West Region appears to have, a comma is used. If it was a novel or car for example called the South-West Region, then the brackets would apply. As far as i understand it the brackets are for disambiguating it from different topics - this one and similar named articles are all dealing with geographic localities so the comma is preferred as we only have to add the country at the end of it. 20% of the State ??
I know the reference wrote, South-West is 20% of the area of the state. But 12,161 sq kilometres is closer to 17% (Cork 10.6%, Kerry 6.7%) --Jacobfrid (talk) 00:07, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- It might be wrong but thats what the source states - you'd think a government department would get it right lol :-) Unfortunately adding the numbers up ourselves constitutes original research. Mabuska (talk) 11:07, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Fair enough, an approximation to 20% is grand, if the government writes it who cares to argue? --Jacobfrid (talk) 20:53, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- Aye its sourced so we meet Wiki standards for it lol Mabuska (talk) 21:30, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- Does it really come under OR? Surely a simple case of division is within the realms of wiki standards? ConorBrady.ie (caint) 11:17, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
- If the source doesn't state the figure and we come to that figure ourselves its considered original research i'm afraid. Is there a way around it i actually don't know, but for verifiability and reliability purposes everything needs sourced. Though if we found a source that gave a more accurate number then we could use that. Mabuska (talk) 18:44, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
Requested move
The request to rename this article to South-West Region, Ireland has been carried out.

South-West Region → South-West Region, Ireland — This should be renamed to South-West Region, Ireland and the redirect should target Southwest, since there are multiple regions in the world with this name. It would then match the redirect Southwest Region. This is an excessively generic name. Cameroon's region is not taking up the primary region, so neither should Ireland's. 76.66.200.95 (talk) 05:38, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

- Support – due to ambiguity of South-West Region, that can mean anywhere in the world. 「ɠu¹ɖяy」¤ • ¢ 08:36, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
- Support Ireland is not the only one. — Amakuru (talk) 23:21, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- Support. The proliferation of hatnotes and the plethora of similar names at the dab page demonstrate the ambiguity of the current title. — AjaxSmack 01:40, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
- Support. Despite being the official name of the region according to its parent country, the term is ambiguous. Mabuska (talk) 21:58, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Discussion
- Any additional comments:
Seeing as there are other articles with similar name then yes this should be changed to South-West Reion, Ireland, as a couple of the Republic of Ireland region articles are. Mabuska (talk) 11:30, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
- If only a couple of the Ireland regions follow this naming convetion ("XXX Region, Ireland") then if this proposal goes ahead, won't it give rise to an inconsistency in style? Shouldn't readers expect uniformity in style? Laurel Lodged (talk) 13:13, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
- In terms of naming conventions, if there is an article that conflicts with the name of another article, in terms of places/localities, the next level-up place should be added to it - just look at Whitehead, County Antrim - the vast majority of Northern Ireland places don't state their county but in this instance it is needed as there is more than one place called Whitehead, for example Whitehead, Nova Scotia.
- However the Southwest Cameroon and Burkino Faso articles appear to be named wrong - it shouldn't be in brackets - thats only for different topics on the same name such as Desertmartin and Desertmartin (parish). Mabuska (talk) 17:03, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
- Most Irish articles are "xxx Region, Ireland". So it is currently inconsistently named. 76.66.200.95 (talk) 02:38, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
