While we were in Germany during the summer of 1989, we toured the Museum and saw the car, as I recall, was the one built for Dr. Porsche. It is an orange variation and the other was for Ferdinand Piech, indeed. But we were to understand that neither had raced , but that Piech enjoyed driving his for quite a few years through the German countryside, enjoying most of the horsepower available to him. Another noticeable feature of the two 914/8s was a much wider headlight door, as I recall, to conceal a four headlight configuration.

Is there any verification that there were 3 914/8s made? A 914 specific site says that only two were...http://www.914fan.net/FAQ2.6.html
