Hassan Haji Mohamoud, also known as Hassan Gadhweyneh, as of 2003, is the Minister of Education of Somaliland. He has previously served as the Governor of Saaxil between 1997 and 2003, and as the Mayor of Berbera from 1997 until 2003. Earlier, he served as the Vice-Mayor of Mogadishu from 1982 until 1991, and was a member of the Somali Parliament between 1981 and 1988.

Background

Mohamoud was born in the Somaliland region's capital of Hargeisa. He grew up in the city of Shiikh in the Sanaag region, and also spent some time in Mogadishu, Burco and Berbera.

Hassan hails from the Habar Awal sub-clan of the Somali Isaaq clan.
