RSA 99.1 FM (Radio Sol de Almijara) is a cultural radio station installed in Nerja, in Southern Spain.
RSA broadcasts on the 99.1 FM wavelength and covers the eastern part of Axarquia, on the Costa del Sol, in the east of the province of Malaga, within the Andalucia region of Southern Spain. The core transmission area radiates from Nerja and takes in the surrounding towns.
RSA 99.1fm, is a non-profit making organization. Unlike commercial radio, it has no owners and all resources are directed into projects and prgrammes. Since its startup in November 2004, RSA 99.1 FM has worked to fill its community role as an alternative educational and cultural resource by informing, entertaining, and involving international residents and visitors.
RSA 99.1 FM, the radio station is a production of ACSA, Asociación Cultural Sol de Almijara, a not for profit association officially registered in Malaga, Spain.
ACSA
ACSA, Asociación Cultural Sol de Almijara promotes multicultural understanding and collaboration through cultural, educational, social, artistic and other creative activities.
The choice of founding members reflects the multi-cultural flavour of the Associacion Cultural Sol de Almijara (ACSA).
- Norbert Barnich, a Belgian who brings advanced film making and radio technical experience to the table.
- Mark Shurey, an Englishman, also a flamenco guitarist, musician and osteopath by trade.
- Dr. Benjamin Dwyer, one of Ireland's leading contemporary musicians and composers.
- Jose Manuel Cabezas, a Spaniard, head of the English Department at the Nerja high school, IES Almijara.
- Dr Dorothy Price is the president of the Associacion Cultural Sol de Almijara (ACSA). She is best known locally for founding the Nerja History Group and is broadcasting as 'Dr Dot' with RSA 99.1 FM.
Radio Sol de Almijara, RSA 99.1fm, is at the heart of this association.
Programming
RSA 99.1 FM provides a fresh alternative to traditional commercial broadcasting for listeners in the Eastern Axarquia, Costa Tropical and surrounding areas. Its live programming is designed to challenge, enrich and inspire listeners with thought provoking choices in music, interviews and information.
RSA 99.1 FM's programmes are designed to meet the cultural and artistic goals of Asociación Cultural Sol de Almijara.
Programming includes live interviews with individuals concerned with politics, art, literature, music, history and other cultural topics; a music mixture that covers almost forgotten genres such as folk, world, classical and jazz; local community news and announcements; Spanish news and satellite news from the World Radio Network and the BBC World Service; including live in-studio music performances.
