Eva Simons (born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands) is a Dutch recording artist. She first came to public attention in 2004 after winning the Dutch version of the reality TV contest Popstars as part of the short lived girlband Raffish. In 2009 the singer embarked on a solo career after a recording of her first single, "Silly Boy," leaked and gained popularity on the Internet.
1984–2009: Early life and career beginnings
Simons grew up in part of a family from a long line of musicians with a pianist-father, trumpeter step-father, and vocalist mother. She has been playing piano and composing since she was a small child and graduated from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.[1][citation needed]
Eva Simons was part of a girlgroup called Raffish. Together with four other girls, she got a number one hit in the Netherlands called "Plaything". She made one album with the band, titled How Raffish Are You?, and two other singles were released from the album: "Thursday's Child" and "Let Go".[2] The group disbanded in 2006.
In 2009, Eva was the female vocalist on the Dutch editions of Dancing With the Stars and X Factor.
2009–present: Rise to popularity and Rockstar
In May 2009 Simons' song "Silly Boy" was leaked onto YouTube. The song soon attracted a large online fan community and became one of the most listened to tracks online, generating over 10 million listens.[1]. The song was rumored to be by Lady Gaga and Rihanna, but the song was later announced as Simons'. Simons has stated that she was flattered that anyone would think that her song was by Lady Gaga or Rihanna.
"Silly Boy" was later released as Simons' debut single. The single was released in September and October of 2009, and reached the Top 20 in Brazil and the Netherlands, but didn't fare as well in other countries, as it failed to chart in the UK and the US and reached low chart positions in other countries. "Don't Stop the Beat", featuring Chris Brown, was then rumored as the album's second single for an early 2010 release, but this was later denied by Eva. In December of 2009, Eva was featured on Brown's song "Pass Out" from his third studio album Graffiti. The song was going to be released as a single, but its release was later canceled.
In May 2010, Jessica Sutta of The Pussycat Dolls confirmed that she had collaborated with Simons on a song.[3] Eva later confirmed that her second single would be a song called "Look But Don't Touch" featuring Jessica Sutta. Another song, "Take Over Control" featuring Afrojack, was later rumored to be the album's second single, but it was later confirmed as Afrojack's single and not hers. Simons has stated that the second single won't be released until the fall of 2010 and that it won't be a song that anyone has heard.[4] A second single won't be released until "Silly Boy" becomes a larger success, however.[4]
Simons' debut studio album, Rockstar, is due for a release in late 2010.[4][citation needed] Simons has been working with producers Afrojack and Kizzo to create the album. She has stated that the album will be personal but still upbeat and danceable. She has been writing a lot of the album's songs.[4]
