November copy edit drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue.

Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.

Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

Awards and barnstars

A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants, some of which are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive!

Hello, when I was creating the newest section for the NASCAR portal, Portal:NASCAR/Championship standings, I wanted the third table to be below the others in the middle. However, it would squeeze inbetween the others. That table is hidden, and I was wondering if you would know how to fix it. Also, do you believe we should add colors to the tables that are similar to the portal colors? Thanks. Nascar1996 02:17, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind. I fixed the issue. Do you believe 2010 Price Chopper 400 is ready for GAN? If it is, why not you nominate it. I have two others (2010 Sylvania 300 & 2010 AAA 400) in the process. Nascar1996 14:15, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've nominated it. ~NerdyScienceDude 03:23, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For the restrictor plate tracks (which has a lead change every lap), how would I write a good prose for them. Should I just ignore those races (except for the Daytona 500)? Nascar1996 17:51, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You could write something similar to 2010 Coke Zero 400. ~NerdyScienceDude 18:06, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I may be able to do that for the 500, I'm not going to be able to finish this race. Nascar1996 18:10, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I may be able to finish it, after I double checked my scheduled. Nascar1996 18:20, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK. ~NerdyScienceDude 19:18, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For the initiative you took a few days back with the report you filed. It's always touching when someone stops what they are doing to try to look out for someone else. Gives me hope for the human race. Thanks... for being you!!! ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 04:17, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

about your rollback

hey, what i said was in good faith...i meant to suggest editing at that point. —Preceding unsigned comment added by M.thoriyan (talkcontribs)

Wikipedia is not a forum for general discussion. Talk pages are for article collaboration, not for random comments. ~NerdyScienceDude 02:23, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, NerdyScienceDude. You have new messages at M.thoriyan's talk page.

Trouted

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

You have been trouted for: YOUR REASON HERE You rolled back this edit as "unhelpful". In my opinion, the text was poorly written POV, and I asked that future edits be discussed on the talk page before being added to the article. I don't claim to have perfect knowledge of WP practices, but I thought my edit was correct. Perhaps I could have discussed my reasoning on the talk page first, but I feel that the burden of proof should be on the editor trying to add controversial text. The automatic message you sent to my talk page telling me it was unhelpful was in itself quite unhelpful. What do you think I did wrong? Tdslk (talk) 03:58, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was using igloo, which automatically leaves a templated warning on your talk page. It looked like blanking of sourced information and replacing it with information about condoms, which is something a vandal could do. I'll remove the warning from your talk page. ~NerdyScienceDude 13:04, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's raining thanks spam!

  • Please pardon the intrusion. This tin of thanks spam is offered to everyone who commented or !voted (Support, Oppose or Neutral) on my recent RfA. I appreciate the fact that you care enough about the encyclopedia and its community to participate in this forum.
  • There are a host of processes that further need community support, including content review (WP:GAN, WP:PR, WP:FAC, and WP:FAR). You can also consider becoming a Wikipedia Ambassador. If you have the requisite experience and knowledge, consider running for admin yourself!
  • If you have any further comments, input or questions, please do feel free to drop a line to me on my talk page. I am open to all discussion. Thanks • Ling.Nut (talk) 02:28, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Message from WikiProject Wikify

A message from WikiProject Wikify!

Thanks for participating in the October 2010 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive! We made significant progress, wikifying hundreds of articles. However, the backlog still needs a large amount of effort--discussions about the next drive (in December) are underway. Until then, happy editing!

PayLeap

Please ease up. The article did not fall foul of WP:CSD#G11 and the user is not a vandal - just a good faith newbie. I have to say I was suprised to se someone of your tenure and experience making those errors NSD. Pedro :  Chat  21:18, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and that bloody dreadful editnotice thing when I edit your userpage is, well, bloody dreadful. Not that it's my business, or enforceable, but half a page of random crap to get to the edit box???? Pedro :  Chat  21:20, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted the removal of CSD tag because the user who created the article isn't supposed to remove the CSD tag; they should use the {{hang on}} template to contest the speedy deletion. And the {{help me}} template is not supposed to be used on articles. Also note that his username is almost identical to the article - could be a promoter. ~NerdyScienceDude 21:27, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
NSD - see WP:BITE. you know about COI, about how to use help tags and about how to use hang-on tags - this editor does not. Instead of reporting him to WP:AIV a few pointers on his talk page would have been better. We don't slavishly follow rules around here mate - or at least those of us with block buttons don't if they have any sense. I'm not having a go at you, but please remember we were all newbies once. Pedro :  Chat  21:34, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, another editor has applied an A7 tag to the article, and the user in question has been blocked per WP:ORGNAME. The AIV report was automatic based on whether or not the editor has a level 4 warning; since there isn't one the report was probably a Huggle error. I also shortened my editnotice. ~NerdyScienceDude 21:44, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
FYI the A7 has been removed, the block is a softblock to get the user to change their name (and frankly I think that's overkill but the crats wont generally change username with a few edits so I guess we're stuck with it) and I have no time whatsoever for people blaming Huggle for stuff. Thanks for shortening your edit notice. NSD if you want to be an admin (which I note from your userpage you do) I'd suggest a little reflection on the nuances rather than the process. Pedro :  Chat  21:50, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
