Regarding the article about my father - Barq Kadapavi
Hi Mr David Fuchs,
Hope you are doing great at your end. MR David, Barq Kadapavi is my father, who was an internationally renowned Urdu language poet. I have written something about his work and life, please find that article over here "https://sites.google.com/site/barqkadapavi". I humbly request you to allow me to add this content to the great Wikipedia resource.

FAC graphics
Just to let you know, graphics, as in Done Doing... and/or Not done are not generally permitted at WP:FAC, since they slow the load time of an already very long page. Regards, WackyWace converse | contribs 13:42, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that is actually true. The done/not done images are vector images, rendered at 18px. They are fetched once from the server (~4.5kb) and populated by the browser wherever the image shows up. WP:REFUND is an undoubtedly smaller page than FAC but the done/not-done images there don't seem to impact the load time. Maybe I'm missing some element to it. Protonk (talk) 14:19, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
- I don't really know. In the 'Supporting and opposing' section on WP:FAC, it reads: "use of graphics or templates including graphics (such as {{done}} and {{not done}}) is discouraged, as they slow down the page load time." I'm not a technical expert, so I would say that it probably doesn't affect the page load time that much, but I felt it appropriate to notify the user. Regards, WackyWace converse | contribs 16:49, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

competition
Hi there. Im looking to have a writing competition held in September and I am looking for a couple people to help me with their thoughts and ideas. I have had some input on the competition and have had several chats with people outside the wikipedia talk pages and I have decided to keep the competition limited to the following restraints: 1. Judges and competitors are separate and there has to be a finite list of them. 2. The competition should range from a few days to no more than 2 weeks, depending on the theme. Not a year long competition and not multiple stages. 3. The theme will be either creating ONE new article, expanding a stub, illustrating a large article with no pictures, editing an article in crisis or something similar to these ideas. If its successful we can have more competitions with other themes. 4. My general idea (but this needs serious development) is to have each article judged two or three times. The top ten are then announced as finalists and every judge then reviews those articles and the top three are announced. 4. Simple is good. Decide theme, decide rules, find people, define judges, define scoring criteria, assign topic or stub or whatever, come up with a way to discourage other users from working on the page (by far most difficult part requiring a lot of ingenuity and good ideas). Judge. Sounds simpler than it really is doesn´t it? 5. Keep it informal, simple and fun. 6. Find a name for it. Wanna help me with this? I´ll set up a new page and hope to build a team of three people to make this happen. Shabidoo | Talk 18:23, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

I thought that I should let you know that this user is also stating that Tal'Set is related to Fireseed even though I’ve never seen anything at all that proves that and it doesn’t look like this person is going to stop doing that.—Preceding unsigned comment added by TheHeronGuard (talk • contribs)

Images
Hey David. You're a chap who's good with images, are you any good at removing backgrounds? I've got a couple character images I want to use in some infoboxes with that effective PNG transparency, but I'm struggling with ditching the background. The background and the characters are a similar hue and it just confuses the tools I'm using. Would you be willing to give them a look over and see what you can do? -- Sabre (talk) 01:04, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, I've emailed them to you. Thanks! -- Sabre (talk) 10:05, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- Ok. I bet they're using those sort of backgrounds just to stop us doing just this sort of stuff! SC2 went well, finished it up just few days ago. Everything I could have asked for, really. Now I just need to start finding dev sources and bits to salvage the nose-dive the article's gone into since release. -- Sabre (talk) 12:22, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
- Just out of curiosity, did you get the collector's edition or the standard edition? -- Sabre (talk) 09:21, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
- Awesome mate. Look forward to seeing them. I'll see if I can't find a backup Kerrigan image just in case, one that Blizzard hasn't made ridiculously difficult to alter. -- Sabre (talk) 21:15, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Hello David, I've just been looking through my work, and it reminds me that I was rather miffed by your comments at GA review, and our failure to reply to User_talk:David_Fuchs/Archive_32#Talk:I.27d_Do_Anything_for_Love_.28But_I_Won.27t_Do_That.29.2FGA1 The JPStalk to me 11:00, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
- I don't disagree with your assessment; the article was, and still is, not in the best of health. I was just a little upset, and still am, I guess (although I haven't been thinking about it continuously since February) that, a) I'd spent a couple of hours of my time addressing your concerns for them to be met with a dismissive summary, and, b) you didn't have the courtesy to reply to my follow-up message. Whilst flattery is not expected, it's always a good idea to reassess how one articulates their feedback towards unpaid editors. There are many resources to help you improve these skills, such as [4] The JPStalk to me 20:18, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Duke Nukem Forever
Please explain to me why you find it necessary to delete sections from the Duke Nukem article, including a reception lead I added as per WP for balanced lead sections. The section for press coverage is important and needed to show its impact for its development time on the gaming industry, and on top of this you are adding details such as Unreal Engine 2, when clearly the latest screenshots released show Unreal Engine 3 footage. These could constitute vandalism. JTBX (talk) 23:07, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

OTRS for John Prendergast
Hi, was looking at some issues with above article and came across the OTRS tag (Ticket link: https://ticket.wikimedia.org/otrs/index.pl?Action=AgentTicketZoom&TicketID=3622393) in talk. Halo: Reach
I didn't mean to interfere with anyone else's work, but when I look at the infobox, it's garbled (text is overlaid on top of other text). That's why I changed it. I tried to keep the collapsible template in, but I couldn't get it to work right AND not be garbled. Doesn't it look wrong to you?--Bbb23 (talk) 01:33, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
- We can keep the discussion here so we don't bounce back and forth (I'm watching your page for your response). I use Firefox (latest release), but I also looked with IE 6 (after your comment), and it has the same problem. However, I changed my FF setting NOT to use a minimum font, and it looks okay (tiny, but okay), so I'm satisfied. Sorry for all the trouble.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:40, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
- It could be some poor code on the part of the collapsible list or in conjunction with templates, as it looks slightly different than other pages it is used. I'll take a look. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 01:59, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
- Hide/show code doesn't always play nicely with some browsers in my experience. But it looks fine on chrome for me. Protonk (talk) 02:28, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
- Other Wikipedia Hide/Show seems to work fine for me, but the space in the infobox is very limited compared to the context of the ones that work okay for me. In any event, it would have been better to clue someone in to the problem rather than to try to "fix" it. Never occurred to me it was a browser issue.--Bbb23 (talk) 03:18, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
Re: You need this
Thanks for the Barnstar! And, if you're interested, I found even more early PC coverage for Halo:
- Computer Games Magazine coverage, directly after Halo's announcement
- Computer Games Magazine feature, part 1
- Computer Games Magazine feature, part 2
- Computer Games Magazine feature, part 3
These, I must say, are even better than the PC Gamer UK previews I found previously. If both groups of previews were combined, the article's admittedly-flimsy Development section (for which I, unfortunately, am to blame) could be fleshed out very nicely. Image-related question
Hello. You recently did the image review for No Rest for the Wicked (Supernatural). I came across an image I would like to use (I will scan it from a magazine), and was wondering if you thought it would work for fair-use. The image is of actor Jensen Ackles hanging in the air in front of a green screen, with the makeup and prosthetics attached to him for his scene in Hell. Do you feel this is okay, or would the description in the text make it redundant? Thanks. Ωphois 14:51, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Image review at FAC (Pedro II of Brazil)
Hi! Editor Karanacs suggested to me your name as a possible image reviewer of Pedro II of Brazil article. It has been nominated a featured article candidate. If you have some time to spare, could do it (Here: Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Pedro II of Brazil/archive1)? Thank you very much! --Lecen (talk) 14:18, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Dota 2/Defense of the Ancients links
Hey, apologies for trying to replace your image. I understand what you meant by the appropriate rationale. However, I have one question about the Defense of the Ancients article. You removed the mention of Dota 2 having some correlation to the first game. Don't you think that it should credit the sequel, much like the StarCraft article credits StarCraft II? Dave, to allay your fears, I am neither a crank nor a luddite. I have, in a previous incarnation, been a research and reference librarian and have used templated cataloguing for MARC records for over 25 years. The problem in Wikiwonderland stems from both the poorly formatted citation templates and a lack of understanding as to what to input into the associated template paramaters. On the other hand, I have been an photographer, graphic artist, author, editor and filmmaker for over 30 years (my time usually devoted to creative pursuits in off-hours). I have also written for movies as a screenwriter, served as a technical advisor and director on two documentaries, as well as writing movie reviews. My avocation is as an aviation historian and my books have revolved around the topic of aviation lore and history, hence my interest in a perfunctory way, regarding The Rocketeer (film). In the past, I had served as a Film Project Coordinator alongside many other long-time editors in the group. I choose to leave the position because I felt that the numerous disputes and constant bickering over inconsequential issues was sapping my energy and time. I purposely left The Rocketeer article off my watchlist for precisely those reasons. Take a look at the article in a week or so, after I have given it a go-over; I will endeavour not to jeopardize its FA status. FWiW (note that I write in Canadianisms...) Golden Sun is the first installment of a series of fantasy role-playing video games developed by Camelot Software Planning and published by Nintendo. It was released in November 2001 for Nintendo's Game Boy Advance, followed by a sequel, Golden Sun: The Lost Age, in 2003. The game is notable for certain unique game elements, such as the use of special "Djinn" that empower the player and can be used against enemies. Golden Sun's story follows a band of magic-attuned "adepts" who are sent from their home town into the wide world of Weyard to prevent the potentially destructive power of alchemy from being released as it was in the past. Along the way the adepts gain new abilities, help out the local populations, and learn more about why alchemy was sealed away. The story continues in The Lost Age. Upon its release, the game was highly praised; IGN's Craig Harris wrote that Golden Sun could "arguably be one of the best 2D-based Japanese RPGs created for any system." The game went on to sell over one million copies in Japan and the United States. A second sequel, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, is scheduled for release in 2010. (more...)

"Pilot" is the first episode of the television series House. The episode premiered on the FOX network on November 16, 2004. It introduces the character of Dr. Gregory House (played by Hugh Laurie)—a maverick antisocial doctor—and his team of diagnosticians at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey. The episode features Dr. House's attempts to diagnose a kindergarten teacher after she collapses in class. House was created by David Shore, who got the idea for the curmudgeonly title character from a doctor's visit. Initially, producer Bryan Singer wanted an American to play House, but British actor Hugh Laurie's audition convinced him that a foreign actor could play the role. Shore wrote House as a character with parallels to Sherlock Holmes—both are drug users, aloof, and largely friendless. The show's producers wanted House handicapped in some way and gave the character a damaged leg arising from an improper diagnosis. The episode received generally positive reviews; the character of House was widely noted as a unique aspect of the episode and series, though reviewers such as Sherwin Nuland of Slate believed that such a cruel character would not be tolerated in real life. Other complaints with the episode included stereotyped supporting characters and an implausible premise. The initial broadcast of "Pilot" was watched by approximately seven million viewers, making it the sixty-second most-watched show of the week. (more...)
