Amy Elizabeth Pearson (born 19 July 1985 in Birmingham, England) is a musician now living in Australia. She is currently best known for her single "Don't Miss You" which was charting in the top 20 on the Australian ARIA Charts.[1] Her debut album "Who I Am" was released April 2008.
Background
Born on July 19, 1985, Pearson was born in and grew up in Birmingham, England.
Whilst signed to a production company called P.O.E.T. Productions run by Take That session musician and songwriters Neil Oldfield and Neil Evington in partnership with Andrew Thompson of Lee and Thompson Solicitors in 2003, Pearson was introduced to and began working closely with SonyBMG Australia's future A&R director now Australian Idol judge Jay Dee Springbett.
As a result, Pearson moved to Australia and signed to SonyBMG in 2004 at 18 years of age.[1] Amy commenced work on her debut album, writing music for over 70 songs, which were recorded across 2006 and 2007 which eventually became part of her debut album.
Music career
2006–2008: Career development and Who I Am
In 2006, Pearson was recorded a song with the first Australian Idol winner, Guy Sebastian titled "We Both Know", which was featured on Home: Songs of Hope & Journey to raise funds and bring attention to beyondblue. Pearson also recorded a cover of Joy to the World for the compilation The Spirit of Christmas 2007.
In late 2006, Pearson began working on her debut album Who I Am, originally set for release in late 2007, but was pushed back to early 2008. Three singles were released from the album; "Don't Miss You" and "Not Me" in 2007, and "Ready to Fly" in 2008. "Don't Miss You" was a top twenty success, peaking at number nineteen on the ARIA Singles Chart, staying on the top fifty for fifteen weeks, and despite its low chart peak, was certified gold. Although the other two singles were not as successful, they both managed the top forty. Tha album Who I Am was released two weeks after "Ready to Fly" and peaked at number thirty-nine on the ARIA Albums Chart, staying on the top one hundred for four weeks and selling around 15,000 copies.
Pearson attended the world premiere for Lord Richard Attenborough's film Closing the Ring, for which she sings the main single "Lost Without Your Love", which she stated will be released in 2008.[2] Pearson is also featured on Seany B's new single "B Good 2 Me".
In early 2008, Amy starred in television commercials on Australian network 7 singing "Ready to Fly". The advertisement digitally places her atop the Great Wall of China, endorsing the commencement of the 2008 Olympic Games.[1] An alternate version of Ready to Fly, a duet with Indonesian singer Rio Febrian, is available with a music video on YouTube.
The album, Who I Am, was released in Japan in late 2008, with Pearson travelling there to promote it.[3]
2008–present: Aftershock
As of October 2008, Pearson is working on her next studio album which she has named Aftershock,[4] originally set for release in mid-2009[5][6] but recently on her Twitter page she has said it will be out in March 2010. She has described the album as being "more fun and confident", and that "so much has changed in my life since I wrote the first album and I think that shows through the music... and I just want people to turn it up and feel good!!".[7] According to her Twitter account, she is currently in LA working with producers Ryan Laubscher & The Heavyweights and Rodney Jerkins, who recently worked on Anastacia's fourth studio album Heavy Rotation, and Sheppard Solomon, who has worked with Natalie Imbruglia and Kelly Clarkson among others. So far two tracks have been confirmed "Doctor Love" and "Aftershock" [1], co-written with production team Dreamlab consisting of singer-songwriter Leah Haywood and her husband Daniel James.
The forthcoming album's first single Butterfingers was due for release on October 2, 2009,[8] but was delayed to October 30, 2009,[9] and did not enter the top 100.
On November 20, 2009 a Christmas compilation album was released onto iTunes called Stars of Christmas. On it, Pearson sings a cover of Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas Is You.[10] Amy was later dropped from her label, Sony, and has announced that she has no plans to sign to another label,[11] but has lately announced via her most recent MySpace blog that she has written a song for Zoe Badwi named "Freefallin'" as well as other tracks with TV Rock, Livingstone, Denzal Park, DNA Songs, HR King and The Sundance Kids, and is planning to head back to her homeland of the UK to "redefine her sound".[12]
Song writing
A song written by Pearson called "Some Kind of Beautiful" was recorded by Canadian Idol fourth-season winner Eva Avila and was a track on Avila's debut album Somewhere Else.
Also, along with Klaus Derendorf and Tom Nichols, Pearson also shares a writing credit in British singer and actress Dani Harmer's debut single Free, which was released in the UK on May 25, 2009, taken from Harmer's upcoming album. The song was originally recorded by Pearson herself and was made an iTunes-only B-side of her single Don't Miss You in 2007.
