Abigail "Abby" Rachel Carlton born (Abigail Rachel Carlton) is a fictional character from the American soap opera The Young and the Restless. Darcy Rose Byrnes played the role from 2003 to June 2008. Byrnes also made several appearances as Abby on The Bold and the Beautiful. Actress Hayley Erin took over the role of a now SORAS'd Abby Carlton on The Young and the Restless on December 29, 2008.[1][2] and played the role until April 14, 2010. In 2010, the role was recast with Marcy Rylan and aged the character from a teenager to an adult.[3] Rylan began taping on April 5 and started airing on May 18, 2010.[4][5]
Abby is the daughter of Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), and adoptive daughter of Brad Carlton (Don Diamont)
Casting
Darcy Rose Byrnes portrayed Abby Carlton as a child on both The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful.[1][6] In 2008, The Young and the Restless began searching for a teenage actress to take on the role. "The fact that they aged Noah, I think it's a no-brainer," Eileen Davidson said. "It would be pretty odd to see a teenage Noah with an 8 year old Abby."[1] Hayley Erin was cast in the part and debuted on December 9, 2008.[2][7] "Hayley had everything I wanted in the role — she looks right for the part and has that youthful energy," said The Young and the Restless's casting director Camille St. Cyr.[7] In 2010, the role was recast again with Marcy Rylan, who begins taping the week of April 5 and will first air in May.[3]
Character background
Abby Carlton is conceived when Ashley, desperate to have Victor's child to replace the one she aborted years ago, steals his sperm from a sperm bank and secretly has herself inseminated. Abby grows up believing Brad Carlton is her father. While Ashley has cancer, she records a video message for Abby to see when she grows up revealing the truth that Victor is her biological father. Unbeknownst to her, Abby sees the video and tells Victor. Though the truth is out, Abby sees both Brad and Victor as father figures.
In early 2007, Ashley leaves Genoa City to work for Jabot International in Hong Kong, taking Abby with her. The character of Ashley crosses over to Young and the Restless's "sister soap" The Bold and the Beautiful in March 2007, as does Abby shortly after. They both stay in Los Angeles until mid-2008. Ashley and Abby eventually end up in London, with Ashley working for Forrester Creations' international branch. Ashley leaves Abby in London when she goes to Paris to help Victor. The two reunite romantically and return to Genoa City to live together. Abby joins them on Christmas as a surprise for Victor.
Abby (Hayley Erin) and her mother move into the Newman ranch, and Victor takes a greater role in Abby's life, including buying her a champion Arabian horse. He asks her to start calling him Dad, which she does, upsetting her REAL father, Brad. When Brad and Abby's sister, Colleen Carlton (Tammin Sursok), die in separate events, Abby begins to rebel against Ashley and Victor. Upon the death of both Brad and Colleen, Abby becomes the sole heiress to herfather's, Brad Carlton, estate. She owns the Carlton Manor. She spends time pursuing the older Ryder Callahan (Wilson Bethel) and inadvertently assists with one of his schemes with his sister Daisy (Yvonne Zima) before they are eventually caught.
In May 2010, Abby (Marcy Rylan) protests in front the lobby of Jabot Cosmetics and strips nude in public against fur usage after ownership is in the hands of Tucker McCall, not knowing that Ashley has returned to become the CEO of Jabot. She plans to start her own reality television show entitled "The Naked Heiress", but is having trouble obtaining the money. She goes to her parents to get the money, but they refuse. Abby recruits Rafe Torres as her lawyer and vows to sue her parents in order to obtain her inheritance. Soon after, she flirts with Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) (much to the latter's dismay) and later kisses him. After being refused help with her reality show by her parents, sister Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle), and uncle Billy Abbott (Billy Miller), she begins to blackmail Billy in order to feature her in Restless Style. While looking through Billy's laptop she stumbles upon video footage of Victoria and Billy's marriage, and warns Billy that she can be as ruthless in her pursuit as he is in his endeavors, and that he should include her in the magazine. After Billy refuses once again, Abby reveals the video footage in front of a room full of people in Jimmy's Bar. She later goes to court to carry out her lawsuit against Victor and Ashley, only to have the judge rule against her. Nevertheless, Abby is determined to go through with the TV show. She also continues to flirt with Daniel, hinting at a potential relationship. She even has sex with Daniel in the pool at the Newman Ranch while recording it on her video camera and sends it to Kent, asking him to leak it without telling anyone it came from her. The next morning, Nikki and Phyllis catch Abby and Daniel outside making out on the bench. After the footage gets leaked, Abby becomes even more famous and popular. At one point, Abby catches Ashley having an affair with Tucker and asks the latter to go into business with her, but he turns down her offer. Soon after, Ashley views Abby's video and confronts her about it. A fame-hungry Abby decides to take a bubble bath in Katherine Chancellor's pool at the annual Chancellor Fourth of July party, much to the chagrin of the adults. Abby is thrown out of the Chancellor Estate. After the several major incidents, Ashley and Victor decide to withhold Abby's inheritance indefinitely. In spite of this, Abby rides a horse naked inside the Athletic Club while Victor and Nikki are celebrating their engagement, leading up to her being arrested and put in jail. Abby even attends the opening of Gloria Bardwell's new nightclub Gloworm & gives it her "Naked Heiress" seal of approval, which delights Gloria.
Abby decides to reopen her lawsuit against Victor, with the help of her Uncle, Jack Abbott, for not consulting her when he paid a fine for the Department of Justice with Newman Shareholders Account. Later, her Biological sister, Victoria Newman decides to join her in the lawsuit, and they're suing Victor for just over 1,000,000,000 dollars.
When a powerful storm hits Genoa City, Abby becomes worried about her mother, &, with Daniel's help, begins looking for her. The two go to Tucker's apartment where Abby thinks Tucker cheated on her mother with Diane Jenkins. On Wedsnday October 27th Victor offers both his daughter a settlement worth 3 billion dollars. Victoria turned it down and talked Abby into doing it also and they asked for a deal they would drop the suit if Victor gave them Beauty of Nature. On November 15 2010 on Abbys birthday Abby wants out of the lawsuit but of course Jack and Victoria talk her into staying. Victoria goes to see Victor and said "it's her birhday dad she's missing Brad, she's missing Colleen (Tammin Sursok) happy birhday would be good Dad" he told her to get out. When he got to the house he saw Abby's horse outside and said "was the peracles out there I thought you traded him for money" and Abby said "yeah Tucker (Stephen Nichols) got it for me I guess it was a symbol of your love" he said "you traded him for money that's also symbolic dont you think" and left.
