Early Life

Mark keeps it a closely guarded secret that during his formative years, especially during the later years of his schooling, that he was incessantly teased about his height. He became embarrassed by his 6' 3" frame* to such an extent that in later life underwent a series of surgeries involving an anterior resection of a verterbral body followed by posterior resection and fusion by shortening the spine with instrumentation. The surgeons used a radical new technique, involving access to Mark's spine though the peak of his skull - with the unfortunate result in a loss of the ability to grow hair in that location. However, the surgeries were an astounding success and Mark now lives happily with his 7.5cm frame**.

* Although he was a starring player in the Leeds under 14's mixed netball championship.
** At least until the re-launch of GW and his radical move toward the front of the magazine!
