Sandra Nurmsalu (born 6 December 1988)[1] is an Estonian singer, violinist and current lead singer of the band Urban Symphony. Urban Symphony represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 on May 16. Nurmsalu sang the lead for the Eurovision entry song "Rändajad".[2] It qualified from the second semi-final and finished at 6th place.
She became known through the biennial youth soloist competition 2 takti ette, held biennially by the Eesti Televisioon and broadcast nationwide where she finished in 4th place[3]. Since taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest, she has gained a considerable fan base in Europe. Nurmsalu had previously been a part of Estonian folk group Pillipiigad for seven years and Virre for three.
Nurmsalu has grown up in Alavere village, Harju County. She made her first musical steps in the music school of Kose. She is currently a resident of the village.
