PSXLinux (also known as Runix) is a Linux kernel and development kit for the PlayStation (MIPS-NOMMU). PSXLinux is based on the μClinux 2.4.x kernel (www.uClinux.org) and contains specific support for the Sony PlayStation.
Execution Methods
Because the Sony PlayStation offers no way for a user to execute their own executable code other than the Net Yaroze, a workaround must be used to execute Runix on real PlayStation hardware. Two main methods exist; execution via a third party device attached to the parallel port of the console, or by a specially crafted CD holding the executable data, which will not ordinarily launch on an unmodified console.
