Munna (born as Kenny Simon on May 1) is an Indian film actor, who has notably appeared in Tamil films. He has acted in Gaurisankaram, Silandhi, Kandein Kadhalai and the Mani Ratnam film Raavanan.[1]

Early life

Dr. Munna was born as Kenny Simon in Chennai, his family, however, originally hails from Agamally in Cochin, Kerala. He completed his Physiotherapy at Little Flower Hospital. After practising for one year in Chennai, his attention was shifted towards acting.

Career

Despite being born into a filmi family, he initially didn't want to pursue an acting career, but rather become a doctor. When he entered the Tamil film industry, he renamed himself as Ashwin, but later as he considered the name to be unlucky, he changed his name to his pet name Munna.

His initial films like Pallavan, Jananam and Unnai Enakku Pudichirukku were highly unsuccessful films that failed to create any impact at the box office. He eventually gained attention with the 2008 low-budget thriller Silandhi, following it up with the successful 2009 romantic drama film Kandein Kadhalai, appearing alongside Bharath and Tamannaah Bhatia. Subsequently he was signed by acclaimed Indian director Mani Ratnam to enact a supporting role in his forthcoming magnum opus film Raavanan, in which he would star along with prominent film artists Aishwarya Rai, Vikram Kennedy, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Priyamani.

Personal life

Munna is the nephew of Malayalam actress Jayabharathi.[2][3] He then married a Thrissur-basedgirl Betty Mary on 7 February 2010.[4]
