Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Move protection is required. one editor is repeatedly moving the article to various other names and immediate being reverted. 65.94.44.243 (talk) 23:12, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
move-protection, Temporary move protection needed, high-profile current event. Kelly hi! 22:43, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Semi-protection Anonymous IPs constantly insert non-existent chart positions which cannot be verified with the sources provided. The page was semi-protected for a while, but the insertions by IPs began again as soon as the semi expired. --Harout72 (talk) 22:39, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 3 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Skier Dude (talk) 22:44, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Page is target of heavy IP vandalism. Yves (talk) 22:33, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

create-protection, Keeps on getting recreated. . JDDJS (talk) 21:17, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection vandalism, From request made at ANI. IP vandalism. Requesting 12 hours. Dusti*poke* 20:31, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Note: related to Gabrielle Giffords and 2011 Tucson shooting - Giffords is Kelly's wife, US Representative from AZ, was shot and wounded (and reportedly killed, but those reports were then retracted) this morning. Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 20:43, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- On review - only one IP actually vandalized or inserted information inconsistent with news reports etc. They were warned and will be blocked if they repeat it. I don't know that a semiprotect is actually needed. Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 20:48, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- It may stay calmed down, but I don't think that protection for a brief time from IP edits in a BLP during a major event is unreasonable. This still allows IP edits via requests on the talk page, and it's only requested for a brief time (12 hours, although I think 6 hours would be better). This is still a relatively fresh event. --Kleopatra (talk) 21:08, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Let me elaborate: my concern is the ghoulish unencyclopedic rush to change all "is married"'s to "was marrieds," while the news is still not certain. Registered users can be dealt with in other ways, but I've had to revert a couple of premature, unsourced such edits, and others have done so also. --Kleopatra (talk) 21:11, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Pending-changes protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Let's try pending changes on this first. If the vandalism gets to be too much, we can change the protection to semi. Dabomb87 (talk) 21:20, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Channel One (UK TV channel) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Semi-protection: There has been a load of edits to this page that either appear to be vandalism or edits with unnecessary information. I am requesting semi-protection of this page until 2/2/2011. Some of the edits of concern are from I.P addresses and this will limit the amount of edit reverts needed if implemented. The tv channel itself closes on 31/1/2011 which is why a requested the protection remain in place until a few days after it closes. From Ruth-2013
- Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. The protection can be extended at a later date if necessary. Dabomb87 (talk) 21:29, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Temporary full protection. There is currently a conflict on the article in connection to a requested move discussion. Requesting the article be reverted to the state prior to the start of the confrontation, i.e. as edited by Cydebot at 01:08, 6 January 2011, and that it remains full-protected for a couple of days until the conclusion of the RM. Regards --DIREKTOR (TALK) 19:16, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Note: there is now also an AN/I thread about this article and actions relating to it. Dpmuk (talk) 19:44, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection vandalism, Long-term or indef semi-protection needed because IPs keep adding unsourced information which violates WP:V and WP:PEOPLE. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 [talk] 18:47, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Dabomb87 (talk) 21:22, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Current requests for unprotection
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Unprotection, The song is about to be released and there is a ton of new information coming in and not being able to add it as fast as it happens isn't such a great idea. Maybe semi-protection, to protect against those IPs?. Cprice1000talk2me 15:06, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Current requests for edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
- See MediaWiki_talk:Histlegend#Fix_WikiBlame_link. Thanks, --Flominator (talk) 11:21, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Fulfilled/denied requests
Temporary full protection. Dispute over the style to be used in the infobox. There is a discussion going on on the talk page but there has been many changes made while this has taken place. Suggest temporary full protection so the discussion can go ahead without the continuing slow motion edit-war. Dpmuk (talk) 12:08, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Fully protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Favonian (talk) 13:31, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Temporary Semi-protect. Continuous reverted edits by IP addresses, I filled in 30 references, unexplained reverts. - Ga Be 19 09:01, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 11:50, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
