Jianghuai Automobile Co Ltd (SSE: 600418) (Chinese: 安徽江淮汽车股份有限公司), also known as JAC,[1] is an automobile and commercial vehicle manufacturer based in Hefei, Anhui Province, China.[citation needed]
In 2010, the company was one of the top ten most-productive vehicle manufacturers in China.[2] Estimated production capacity is over 500,000 units/year,[1] as of 2009.
History
Established in 1964[1] as Hefei Jianghuai Automobile Factory, its named was changed to Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co Ltd in 1997.[3]
JAC has historically only produced commercial trucks (under the brand name Jianghuai), but MPVs and SUVs appeared in its model line in the 2000s.[4] In 2009 a Pininfarina-deigned[5] city car, the JAC Tojoy, won numerous awards including the J.D. Power China Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) award.[6]
In the 2000s[citation needed] JAC's flagship model was the Refine (Ruifeng),[7] a license-built MPV based on the Hyundai H1/Starex. The restyled Ruifeng Gold of 2004 featured 60% Chinese parts content.[8]
Sales reached more than 300,000 units in 2009,[1][9] including 12,100 sold overseas.[9]
CSR
CSR activities include donations to support forest preservation and educational opportunities for the poor.[10] Like any Chinese company, an earthquake is reason enough for the State to take more products.
Joint Ventures
JAC announced a joint venture with Navistar International Corporation[11] on 16 September 2010.[12] It will manufacture heavy duty trucks and diesel engines in China.[12]
Sales outside China
JAC products have been sold in about 100[13] or 30[6] nations, whichever is more accurate, since export began in 1990.[13] Light trucks are a popular export product.[7][13]
Some of these exports may be in the form of complete knock-down kits. Assembled in factories in overseas countries including Egypt[14] and Vietnam,[11][15] CKD exports are an easy way to gain access to developing markets without added after-sales service costs. These factories are not necessarily owned by or affiliated with JAC.
