January 19th, 2009: At approximately 12 noon that day, Press Communications ceased broadcasting alternative rock on 106.3 FM (WHTG) and 106.5 FM (WBBO). Without any warning, G Rock 106.3/106.5 was replaced with Top 40 music as Hit 106. Those expecting to hear intelligent, creative rock music were instead exposed to the likes of Ne-Yo, Taylor Swift, and Britney Spears. The move left most of New Jersey without an alternative rock ...station for the first time in 25 years. |
January 19th, 2011: Bring Back GRock! members send a message to Press loud and clear that we are still angry about losing the area's only alternative rock station, and that we want it back. |
The radio landscape may have changed slightly, with Top 40 being moved to 98.5 and Country & Western music moved to 106.3/106.5. But what hasn't changed is that if you enjoyed the unique music and entertaining personalities that made G-Rock such a great station, chances are that nothing even comes close to filling the void that its loss left behind. |
We can ensure that our message will be most impactful by making sure everyone at Press knows about our frustration, from the executives, to the personalities, to those who listen to their Top 40 (B 98.5) and Country (Thunder 106) stations. |
Our objective: Using every channel available to us (e-mail, phone, Facebook pages) to get our message out. |
On Wednesday, 1/19/11, as part of our Bring Back GRock!: January 19th Campaign, we will mark the second anniversary of losing alternative rock on the FM dial by having our voices heard and letting everyone at Press know that they made a huge mistake two years ago that can only be rectified by returning alternative rock to its rightful place: 106.3 & 106.5 FM. |
Here is the Press Communications contact list. What we aim to accomplish is disrupting the usual daily events by flooding e-mail addresses, voice mail boxes, and Facebook walls with calls to bring G-Rock back. Remember, the more people get involved, the greater impact we will have. |
