"Down In Flames" is the first single from the American rock band Semisonic, from the album Great Divide. It was written by Semisonic's guitarist and singer Dan Wilson. It was produced by Paul Fox.
Music video
The music video for Down In Flames was directed by noted multimedia artist Douglas Gayeton. The video shows a woman in the desert, burning the belongings of a friend who had died, while cutting to footage of the band playing their instruments, with fire burning around the band.
MTV would not air the video however. The fire in the video was a touchy subject as MTV was reeling in controversy after teenagers had set fires, allegedly after watching the MTV cartoon Beavis and Butthead.[1]

Our timing could have been worse. MTV had recently become embroiled in controversy because some teenagers, allegedlly inspired by the cartoon characters of the MTV show Beavis and Butthead, had started a fire and a lawsuit was pending.
