Enix was a Japanese video game company founded in August, 1982 as a subsidary of Eidansha Boshu Service Center. It has since merged with Squaresoft on April 1, 2003 to form the modern day company Square Enix.
Enix was most famous for the Dragon Quest series of games (known as Dragon Warrior in North America). Other popular series from Enix were the Soul Blazer series, consisting of Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma and the Star Ocean series, developed by tri-Ace.
