The Cavite State University (Filipino: Pambansang Pamantasan ng Kabite), formerly known as Don Severino (de Las Alas) Agricultural College (DSAC) is a premier university in the province of Cavite and was established by the American Thomasites (family name), as a pioneer intermediate school in 1906. Located just 30 kilometers south of Manila in the Philippines, its first teachers were American Thomasites, recruited from the United States Armed Forces. By virtue of the Republic Act No. 8468, the College was converted into Cavite State University on January 22, 1998.
History
C.E Workman was, in 1966, the first principal of the Cavite intermediate school. In 1975, the school had its first Filipino principal, Mariano Mondero. The emphasis, then, was on vocational agriculture for boys, and domestic science for girls. In 1978, the name of the school was changed to "Indang Farming School".
As enrollment increased, the school site was expanded through the land donations of the citizens of Indang, including Don Severino delas Alas, Secretary of Interior in the Aguinaldo cabinet, and Francisco Ocampo. The school was renamed Indang Rural High School, during the incumbency of principal, Simeon Madlangcay. It first offered a secondary course in vocational agriculture in 1923, and in Home Economics in 1927.
In recognition of the generosity of Don Severino delas Alas "to the community, to the province of Cavite and to the nation", the name of the institution was changed to Don Severino National Agricultural School, in 1958, by congressional action. The name was retained up to 1964, when it was converted into a state college, by virtue of Republic Act No. 3917. Under this Act, the school was given its own charter, and became known as Don Severino Agricultural College (DSAC).
In 2002, Cavite College of Fisheries (CACOF) in Naic, and Cavite College of Arts and Trade (CCAT) in Rosario, were integrated with Cavite State University. Cavite City Campus was launched in 2001, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed for the establishment of the Carmona Campus in 2002. There were also newly established campuses in other parts of Cavite: Imus Campus (est. 2003), Trece Martires Campus (est. 2005), Silang Campus (est. 2006), Tanza Campus (est. 2007), and Bacoor Campus (est. 2008).

CvSU Hymn
Hail, Alma Mater dear
CvSU all the way through
Seat of hope that we dream of
Under the sky so blue
Verdant fields God's gift to you
Open our lives a new
Oh, our hearts, our hands
And minds, too
In your bosom thrive and grow
Seeds of hope are now in bloom
Vigilant sons to you have sworn
To CvSU our faith goes on
Cradle of hope and bright vision
These sturdy arms that care
Are the nation builders
Blessed with strength and power
To our Almighty we offer
Seeds of hope are now in bloom
Vigilant sons to you have sworn
To CvSU our faith goes on
Cradle of hope and bright vision
We pray for CvSU
God's blessing be with you
You're the master, we're the builders
CvSU leads forever

Cavite State University's Landmark
Laya at Diwa
The brass artwork carries the University’s ideals of TRUTH, EXCELLENCE and SERVICE. There are five basic elements in the artwork together with the symbolic figures and meanings. The unchained female figure, holding a book, represents the empowered Filipino woman. She is beauty personified and is today’s contemporary woman – a mother, a nurturer, an educator, and a humble servant to humanity.
The male figure with a pen and a torch represents the dignified Filipino father – strong, prominent, dignified and excellent in his field of endeavor besides being portrayed as persistent searcher of truth. The flame of the torch carries the letters CvSU for Cavite State University – serving as the guiding light of his noble quest. The interlocked arms of the man and the woman signifies unity of purpose and direction.
The child figure, in a dynamic pose standing on top of the pillar and reaching out a dove, represents the youth in general and recognized as the proverbial hope of the future that needs molding and nurturing. The dove symbolizes peace and freedom.
The central pillar symbolizes growth and development. It represents Filipinos’ common aspiration for an improved quality of life – a kind of life with equity, peace, justice and harmony. The pillar is ever growing, directed higher but always deeply rooted in history as depicted by the murals on the sides of the base. The murals show the important historical events that took place in the province of Cavite and throughout the Philippines and portray events showing Filipino’s life and spirit under imperial Spain and other colonizers including their continuing struggle for freedom and independence.
The entire artwork is mounted on a CvSU logo-shaped base to serve as a fitting reminder to the entire CvSU community of its great responsibility to remain faithful to the University’s vision and mission and to hold sacred its tenets of TRUTH, EXCELLENCE and SERVICE.
The "Laya at Diwa" monument is located at the entrance of the Don Severino de las Alas Campus in Indang, Cavite.
“Laya at Diwa” is a creation of the Castrillos of Imus, Cavite (led and supervised by Jonnel P. Castrillo). It was inaugurated on December 15, 2006 by Hon. Senator Edgardo J. Angara, on the occasion of the University’s centenary celebration.
