***Hi. The province is named after its administrative center, i.e. Martakert. Mardakert is yet another (but unofficial) version to spell Martakert. Since Mardakert is redirected to Aghdara, I suppose this talk page is the right place to discuss whether or not Aghdara is relevant in English Wikipedia. --[[User:Ashot Arzumanyan|<span style="background:#913100;color:#EDEDED" vlink="color:#EDEDED">'''&nbsp;'''Ashot'''&nbsp;</span>]]''' ([[User talk:Ashot Arzumanyan|<span style="color:#913100">talk</span>]]) 16:28, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Opening comment

I changed the introduction a bit, as there seems to be a confusion as to the town's spelling and current status. Thanks. Atabəy (talk) 16:58, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move to Martakert

Aghdara (town)MartakertRelisted. fuzzy510 (talk) 08:43, 7 March 2011 (UTC) Per WP:PLACE - Widely accepted name. Google scholar results for Martakert provide with overwhelmingly more than those for Aghdara. -- Ashot  (talk) 11:30, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose This is a nearly identical situation to the requested move of Heyvali (village). both small towns in the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. The issue of de jure vs. de facto territorial control also remains unresolved. Article history show this article has been the subject of a move war going back to 2008. Redirects means users are getting to the correct content, so I'm not convinced a move is appropriate. If anything the article should be moved to Aghdara because the only reason the town qualifer exists is because it was used to move the article during an undiscussed move.--Labattblueboy (talk) 20:40, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. I think you'd have to be more persuasive than a Google search, as there's also a Martakert Province. Anyway I'm just here to note a related protection of Mardakert (town), should this article be moved it'll need updating by an admin. I concur that the (town) qualifier is unnecessary and should be removed. -- zzuuzz (talk) 09:14, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • To clarify this, if this article is to be moved it should be to Mardakert (town), as the page at Mardakert will either continue pointing to the province, or possibly turn into a disambiguation page. It seems unlikely the town should be at that title in a more primary position than the province. -- zzuuzz (talk) 19:41, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note: Google Books reveals even more references to Martakert than Google Scholar[1], which adds to the argument of it being a widely accepted name. -- Ashot  (talk) 14:29, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
