Tina Tzee Ling Wong BSc(Hons), MBBS, FRCOphth, FRCS(Ed), PhD is a British medical doctor and clinician-scientist specialising in glaucoma[1]. Trained in the UK she currently lives and works in Singapore.

Early life

Tina Wong was born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England and was raised in Bakewell, Derbyshire. She earned her MBBS at the medical school of St. George’s Hospital, University of London, additionally undertaking a BSc degree in which she earned a First Class Honours, with her research winning her the prize of the Physiological Society (UK). Tina Wong completed her ophthalmology training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. She won the Henry Wellcome Trust Fellowship in 1999 to pursue a PhD at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University College London. Her research related to cell biology, matrix metalloproteinases and wound healing specifically related to post-operative scarring after glaucoma surgery[2]. For this research she was awarded the Founders Cup in the Oxford Ophthalmological Congress in 2001 and the Moorfields Research Medal in 2006[3]. Dr. Wong is a well-known figure in Singapore social circles[4][5], and was selected as a role model in 2009 by the fashion brand Hermès to be one of their ‘inspiring women’ with their charitable project ‘PS I Silk You’[6].
