Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal (遊☆戯☆王 ZEXAL (ゼアル), Yūgiō Zearu) is an upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! anime and manga series. The series was first unveiled on December 18, 2010 in the February 2011 issue of V Jump magazine, where the manga began serialization.[1] The TV anime is slated to premiere on TV Tokyo on April 11, 2011, replacing the previous series, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's.

Plot

The story takes place in the distant future and focuses on a boy named Yuma Tsukumo, the number one bad boy at his school. Something unexpected happens when Ryoga challenges him to a Duel as the mysterious ghost of Astral appears before them, a new legend begins.

Yuma Tsukumo (九十九 遊馬, Tsukumo Yūma)
Voiced by: Tasuku Hatanaka
The main protagonist, a supposed bad boy in school. He wears a pendant given to him by his late mother. He is pretty amateur at Duel Monsters until the day he battles Ryuga and encounters Astral. His Key card is the Exceed monster No. 39 Aspiring Emperor Hope.
Astral (アストラル, Asutoraru)
Voiced by: Miyu Irino
A mysterious ghost that Yuma comes into an encounter with, forming a partnership with him to regain his memories that manifest as a series of Duel Monster cards called Numbers.
Ryoga Kamashiro (神代 凌牙, Kamashira Ryōga)
Voiced by: Toshiki Masuda
Yuma's rival. His key cards are the Exceed Monsters Aero Shark and No. 17 Revise Dragon.
Kotori Mizuki (観月 小鳥, Mizuki Kotori)
Voiced by: Mikako Komatsu
Yuma's best friend.
Akari Tsukumo (九十九 明里, Tsukumo Akari)
Voiced by: Nami Miyahara
Yuma's sister.
Haru Tsukumo (九十九 春, Tsukumo Haru)
Voiced by: Ikuko Tani
Yuma and Akari's grandmother, who has been looking after them with their parents on a lot of business trip.

A manga series began serialization in the extended February 2011 issue of V Jump magazine, released on December 18, 2010.[2]

Anime

The anime was first teased on December 9, 2010, revealing details would be unveiled at the Japanese encore screening of Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D: Bonds Beyond Time on February 20, 2011.[3] The series' name was revealed on December 13, 2010, via a leak from the February 2011 issue of V Jump.[1] A one minute promotional video was released on December 17, 2010.[2] The anime will begin airing on TV Tokyo from April 11, 2011.[4] The opening theme will be "Masterpiece" (マスターピース, Masutāpīsu) by mihimaru GT whilst the ending theme will be "My Quest" (僕クエスト, Boku Kuesuto) by Golden Bomber.
