Carat Security Group (CSG) is a large, privately held[1] manufacturer of mobile mobile armor. Based in Liège, Belgium, it was formed through the February, 2008, acquisition of armor manufacturer Centigon by industry rival Carat Duchatelet.[2] One of the world's leading commercial armored vehicle providers,[3] it operates seven factories worldwide, employs a labor force of 1,000, and produces a claimed 1,600 armored vehicles annually.[4]
Among its subsidiaries' products are armored limousines for heads of states, armored sedans and SUVs, specialized vehicles for transporting cash, ballistic glass, and a variety of vehicles and equipment for the defense industry.[4]
In addition to offering feature-loaded premium transportation CSG also produces simpler, cheaper, less protected "no frills" vehicles aimed at a growing customer base in Africa and the Middle East. [5] Its Black Scorpion Fast Attack Vehicle developed for this niche market was introduced at the Eurosatory 2010[1] international exhibition of land security and defense vehicles in Paris.[6]
