History
Numbers rose rapidly, from 70 pupils in 1969 to nearly 500 in just five years. King’s College soon outgrew its premises and by 1976 ten houses of differing size and design were in use in the Chamartín area of Madrid.
After occupying these temporary premises for some nine years, the main school moved in 1978 to its present purpose-built premises in the pleasant residential area of Soto de Viñuelas to the north of Madrid. The first section of the building was opened by the British Ambassador to Spain Sir Antony Acland, KCVO, CMG, and dedicated by the Papal Nuncio in Spain and the Anglican Bishop in Europe. Since then many improvements and additions have been made to the building and facilities, including:
- A residential wing for boarding students opened by the School's Patron the Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne
- A 25m heated swimming pool
- An Early Learning Centre
- A brand new Infant School in Chamartín (2004)
- An auditorium with seating capacity for 400 people
- A Music School with six rooms for individual tuition
- King's College School, La Moraleja (2007) opened by HRH Princess Alexandra, The Honourable Lady Ogilvy

About the English National Curriculum
The school offers a curriculum in English, along with complimentary Spanish classes. In Year 12 there is a choice between the British A-Levels and the Spanish Bachillerato. Academic Organisation
The school’s educational programme is based on the English National Curriculum and offers an excellent British education to children from Pre-Nursery to University Entrance.
The curriculum leads to the G.C.S.E examinations at the end of Year 11 (age 16), principally using the IGCSE board (Cambridge International Board, recognised generally as a higher standard). These studies are officially recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education through the process of validation.
In their final two years at King’s College, pupils study for the London University (Edexcel) GCE A Level examinations, leading to international university entrance. Alternatively, they may opt for the Spanish Bachillerato. In addition we offer the "Parte Específica" to those A Level students wishing to apply for entrance to Spanish universities. In either case students may apply for places at universities throughout the world.
There are two Directors of the Post 16 Section, one of whom is dedicated solely to students' academic progress. It is a priority of the school that students are successful in gaining places at the best possible university of their choice.
Throughout their time at the school, pupils receive advice and orientation on their academic choices and career opportunities from our Careers and University Entrance Advisory Department.
Fully qualified British staff teach the English National Curriculum. Bachillerato classes and Spanish language classes are all given by qualified Spanish teachers.
University Entrance
The school has a very experienced Careers and University entrance Advisory Department which offers pupils extensive help and advice when applying for Higher Education, whether in the UK or in the rest of the world.
One hundred percent (100%) of Year 13 leavers gain a place at a university of their choice. Generally universities look most favourably upon applications from schools such as ours, as they appreciate that the multi-cultural, multi-lingual nature of our students will enrich their undergraduate life. Every year, approximately one hundred pupils complete their studies at King's College and enter the best international universities. Approximately half go to the United Kingdom with many gaining places at prestigious universities such as Oxford, Cambridge and London. Another large group opts for Spanish institutions including both private and public universities, most of which are located in the Madrid area. Finally, a smaller group of students goes on to study at top universities in the United States, such as Yale, Canada, Japan or South America.
