Aljunied Group Representation Constituency (Traditional Chinese: 阿裕尼集選區;Simplified Chinese: 阿裕尼集选区) is a five-member group representation constituency (GRC) in the north-eastern region of Singapore. The GRC consists of a large part of Hougang, Serangoon Gardens, a portion of Bedok and Aljunied. Located within Aljunied GRC is an enclave single member constituency known as Hougang Single Member Constituency (SMC) which is occupied by an opposition Member of Parliament.
Aljunied GRC was formed in 1988 and has been held by the People's Action Party since then. The GRC is an opposition favourite and was contested in the 1988, 1997 and 2006 general elections.
Aljunied GRC absorbed the previous Eunos GRC and part of Cheng San GRC where PAP narrowly won in 1991 and 1997. The Workers' Party was to contest the seat in the 2001 general elections, but its candidates failed to fill up the forms properly and were therefore disqualified.
For the general election in 2006, the electoral boundaries were re-drawn, and parts of Eunos, Kembangan and Chai Chee, bounded by Pan Island Expressway, Jalan Eunos and Sims Avenue East, were transferred to Marine Parade GRC while Serangoon Gardens was transferred to Aljunied GRC.
Aljunied-Hougang ward will be transferred to Ang Mo Kio GRC for the 2011 elections, in exchange for Kaki Bukit, currently part of Marine Parade GRC.
Currently, Aljunied GRC is led by Secretary-General of the Workers' Party Low Thia Khiang.
