Film career
In 2003 Platinum Dunes owner filmmaker Michael Bay offered Nispel to direct the remake of the classic 1974 horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. the remake with the same name was a box-office success with mixed reviews, however it was well-received by fans, gained popularity, spawnd a prequel, comic-book series and started a long line of horror remakes from the 70's and the 80's, also starts Nispel's career as a film director.
In 2007 he directed and produced the epic action film Pathfinder a remake to Norwegian film with the same name. the film failed at the box-office and poorly received by critics. according to Nispel, he believed the reason the film was a flop because he had been forced by 20th Century Fox to cut the gore and digitally remove some of the extreme violence out of at least 32 scenes for a "R" rating, also forced to trim down 23 scenes (including significant plot development) for reasons of time and pacing. however the film did gained a small cult following, and a successful graphic novel adaptation.
In 2009 he directed the Friday the 13th reboot of the original film and the franchise. it was box-office success and the second highest-grossing film in the Friday the 13th series, but met with negative response from fans and critics.
It was recently confirmed that Nispel will direct a reboot of the Conan the Barbarian franchise. He has stated that this was his childhood dream project.
