Pedo- or Paedo-[1] is a prefix meaning relating to children from the Greek word pais (παῖς), meaning child or slave,[2] which derived from the Proto-Indo European base word *peu-, meaning "small," "young" or "few,"[1] It also relates to words derived from the Proto-Indo European word *ped-, meaning "foot,"[3] such as the Latin prefix ped-, also meaning foot,[4] and the Greek word for soil pedon (πέδον}[5][6]
