Goa is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in India. Sun-kissed beaches, warm friendly people, and loads of attractive places to visit and experience draw scores of tourists to Goa in any given year. The one-of-a-kind event, the Goa Sand Art Festival is one of these attractions, held in Goa each year in association with Goa Tourism. The festival lasts three days, and is held at one of Goa’s pristine beaches.
The objective of Goa Sand Art Festival is to create awareness about a particular issue, provide a platform for the students and upcoming artists to showcase their talent and also encourage this form of art.
About GSAF 2009:
The Goa Sand Art Festival 2009 was the year of its inception. The theme for 2009 was ‘Global Warming’ which was conveyed through six different sand sculptures. Around 12 upcoming artists from Mumbai, Pune and Goa participated in the festival. Each sand sculpture was like a campaign which highlighted the theme.
The main attraction of the Goa Sand Art Festival 2009 was a sculpture of ‘Mother Earth’ which was beautifully sculpted by the entire team. The sculpture of ‘Mother Earth’ was an 18-feet long pregnant woman lying on the beach with her hands around her unborn child. The concept was: her belly symbolized our planet which needs a lot of attention and care.
The three day festival attracted over 1,000 people including many passersby’s and tourists. Many also came with their families, especially children, to see the festival.
About GSAF 2010:
The highlight for this year’s festival was a theme park depicting ‘wildlife conservation’. Around 3 days prior to the main festival, the students and the artists from Mumbai, Pune and Goa began work on their creations, creating a unique theme park with different endangered species made completely out of sand.
