Ibn Hajar Asqalani was a Sunni scholar.
In 817, Ibn Hajar commenced the enormous task of assembling his Fath al-Bari, the most valued Sunni commentary of Sahi Bukhari.
He deemed the leader of the troops that killed Husain ibn Ali, Umar ibn Sa'ad, to be trustworthy.
He followed the Shafi'i madhab.
