The Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport ~ N.M.M.T (Marathi: नवी मुंबई महापालिका परिवहन ~ एन.एम.एम.टी.) is the transportation wing of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, which operates a large number of bus lines in the New Mumbai metropolitan area. These buses are called New Mumbai Municipal Transport or N.M.M.T bus. NMMT bus serves the entire New Mumbai City. It also has operation outside city limits into neighboring Mumbai, Thane and Kalyan-Dombivili. It is the third largest Public transport body in Maharashtra after BEST and Pune Municipal Transport.
Origins
Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport is a major Transportation Service serving people in Navi Mumbai, and also its surrounding areas and cities. NMMT's service area extends from Thane, Dombivali etc. in North to Uran, Panvel etc. in South of Navi Mumbai.
NMMT has been operating in Navi Mumbai since 1996. And till now it has crossed many milestones in Transportation Service as well as Passenger Service and Satisfaction. NMMT believe in Better Connectivity, Clean Environment, Good Behavior and Moral Values.
NMMT has always welcomed new technologies and methodologies to improve efficiency and quality. Working alogside Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, NMMT has established itself firmly in the region by creating extensive network or routes

Navi Mumbai
The Local Bus Service of the City, which are operated by NMMC.
Mumbai suburbs and city
Predominately BEST provides most of the services in the Mumbai Suburbs & City internally as well as the Inter city connectivity, NMMT is an other option which can be used by the commuters to travel to & from Mumbai & Navi Mumbai. Area of Services of NMMT in Mumbai City currently is only Sion, where as in Suburbs are Bandra, Mulund, Borivali.
Thane & Bhayander
In Thane City the Routes within the city are limited but NMMT is the major node to connect the Thane City to the various Parts of the Navi Mumbai. Biggest Bus Stand is at CIDCO (Thane Railway Station West), here there are more NMMT buses than TMT which is Thane's Local Bus Service. The Inter-city connectivity is the main & only service in Thane. To reach Mumbra from Navi Mumbai NMMT has to pass through Thane City.
A Single Long Route Vashi to Bhayander Railway Station East has been started plying on Ghodbunder Road via Thane Railway Station (Cidco).
Kalyan-Dombivali-Badlapur
Before the Introduction of the KDMT the NNMT was the only mode of connection between Navi Mumbai & Kalyan-Dombivali region. Few Bus Routes are active but in future more is expected.
Panvel-Kalamboli-Kharghar
Predominately this are is Hub of MSRTC or commonly known as ST Buses. But NMMT provides services to this area, as commuters can have an extra option to travel towards Navi Mumbai.
Uran
The further Most Place in the Mumbai-Thane-Navi Mumbai Region, Uran located in Raigad District is the furthermost place where NNMT provides its services. A single Route is active in this area.

Fares
The NMMT have several different options to pay the fares for the bus. The fares vary depending on the type. Paper Tickets are valid only for single journey. Commuter also have the option to buy monthly and quarterly passes. Student gets discounts on monthly and quarterly passes and senior citizen get discount for weekly, fortnightly, monthly and quarterly passes.
Single Journey Fares are valid only for single trip between any two points. They are issued on paper ticket by the bus conductor. All fare payments must be made in cash. The fare depends on distance of the destination. Single Journey fare are not valid for transfers.
All fares are in Indian Rupees.

- Fare for Cargo will be 50% of the Fare for an adult, and it will be a minimum of Rs.4.0

Bus Pass Fares
•NMMT has made changes in the monthly bus pass rates by keeping the objectives and rules common and constant for the general public.
•The bus pass structure has been sorted into different types like Weekly, Monthly, Trimesteric, Semestric, Annual. The following strucuture is implemented since 11 August 2008.

Administrative Goals for Future: To extend the NMMT's Service to following areas of Mumbai

JNNRUM Financed Expansion Plan
NMMT will acquire funds under JNNRUM scheme from Central, State and MMRDA on load and/or some other basis for development. Under this project Low Floor A/C buses are to be acquired and operated on special routes.
Following types of buses are planned:
- Low Floor A/C Volvo Buses
- Low Floor A/C Ashok Leyland Buses
- Semi Low Floor Ashok Leyland CNG Buses
Use of CNG buses
Because of NMMT's inclination towards low pollution service, NMMT is planning to convert the fleet into CNG driven buses.
CNG filling station is to be erected on BOT basis giving better facility for NMMT Buses as well as outside vehicles.
Using GPS in buses
By using GPS Bus Tracking & Monitoring System in approximately 200 buses in future, NMMT wants to set up Public Information System so that passengers will know when exactly a particular bus will reach their stop with help of LED displays etc.
