Pain Is Love 2 is the seventh studio album by rapper Ja Rule, set to be released sometime in late July or August.[1] It is the second installment in the P.I.L. trilogy, preceded by Pain Is Love (2001).

In February 2011, It was announced that Ja Rule is working on another album called Pain Is Love 2, naming it after the original 2001 triple platinum album (Pain Is Love). It will feature production from the producers on the original Pain Is Love album in order to "recreate magic". He had planned on releasing both of the albums on June 7, although later decided to delay the release date in order to allow more time to perfect the "level and quality of the records" and to avoid "doing an injustice to his fans", according producer 7 Aurelius.

“The Plan changed mostly because of the level and quality of the records we were making,” says 7 Aurelius, super-producer behind Murder Inc’s infamous reign atop the charts. He speaks of course, about the upcoming Ja Rule album ‘Pain Is Love 2’, sequel to Ja’s 2001 highest selling album ‘Pain Is Love’. “We have exhausted every possible way to have it available on iTunes for pre-order on the 7th. The main issue is that Fontana needs the album turned in before they will release a date, or even start their process which is normally sixty days for digital and hard copy.”

To understand the push for a June 7th release date, certain issues need to be addressed. June 8th is the day Ja Rule begins his two year prison sentence. The crime? A 2007 firearms possession charge and more recently, three counts of tax evasion. With the clock ticking down, Ja Rule began work on his eighth studio LP ‘The Renaissance Project’. The plan was to release the album on June 7th under Fontana/Universal, while at the same time maximizing any media exposure before his sentence commenced. Somewhere along the lines, the plans changed. A couple of months before June, Ja reunited with 7 Aurelius, the other man not named‘ Irving’ behind the six times platinum ‘Pain Is Love’. What resulted in those initial studio sessions between the two, was a renewed sense of purpose and inspiration in the music. Before they knew it, a new project was being developed, one injected with creativity and vigour unlike anything they had done before. “The record is absolutely f**king sick!” 7 says. However, given the limited time in which to record Pain Is Love 2 (or PIL2 as it is being dubbed), certain sacrifices had to be made, The June 7th release date being one of them. “Me and Rule have to capture all the magic around us until he goes in, otherwise we are doing an injustice to his fans. For example, if we had stopped in April just to be able to turn it in to Fontana for a June 7 date, PIL2 would not be what it is now. They have acknowledged that because it’s Ja Rule, they will give it a fast track release once it is turned in and that would be digital and hard copy.” Impatient fans must now trust that this decision to postpone the release will benefit the quality of music and overall handling of the albums promotion and marketing whilst Ja is incarceration. “A PIL2 DVD with all of the videos including ‘Real life fantasy’ directed by Hype Williams is being put together. The rest will be rolled out over the coming weeks. This is Ja’s most provocative and his most personal album to date. When you hear it just makes you a fan all over again.”
