Shahrzad Rafati is the Founder and CEO of BroadbandTV Corp (BBTV).[1] Vancouver, British Columbia. Rafati started the company in 2005, a year before she graduated from the University of British Columbia in computer sciences. She is most famous for being listed as one of the world’s top 100 creative business thinkers[3] by Fast Company.[4]
Her first venture BBTV[5] is a media company that brings together content owners, Video on Demand over IP software and hardware platform providers as well as network operators to help create economically sustainable VOD over IP business models. BBTV specializes in the aggregation, sales, marketing and distribution of content via the VOD over IP channel. BroadbandTV[6] is a path-breaking innovation of Shahrzad Rafati in the online space, which enjoys business relationships with the likes of YouTube, the National Basketball Association, Electronic Arts, United Way[7][8], Sony Pictures, Columbia Pictures and Warner Brothers.
The company began operations by offering TV entertainment in different language over the Internet. However Rafati’s innovations that attracted extraordinary response is the tracking of unauthorized online video and other visuals. She has developed computer programs, search algorithms— that scans the web for a specific content[9] and various unauthorized content. The algorithms scan the web and When they find one, BroadbandTV staff screen it for potential objectionable content and remove it, and then attach advertisements. Such exercise converts a pirated video clip posted on YouTube as a revenue-generating asset.
The brainchild of Shahrzad Rafati, 'BroadbandTV accredited with prestigious Ready to Rocket[10][11] list, known for identifying companies with outstanding achievements in Revenue, profitability and growth. The annual list of Rocket[12] recognizes the prominent companies who have created innovative products, practices and services that are capitalizing on significant IT trends with noteworthy clientele.

Shahrzad has devoted much of her free time toward charity. Her personal vision and mandate is one of constructive professional achievement and social betterment. She strongly feels that the two concepts are not mutually exclusive.[14]
