Shahrzad Rafati is a Canadian entrepreneur and the founder of BroadbandTV Corp (BBTV) [1] headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia. Rafati founded BroadbandTV five years ago and has served as its CEO since inception. During this time she has quickly vaulted BBTV into a leadership position in the video curation/monetization space with cutting edge business models that solve major problems for the online video marketplace. She was recently named as one of the world’s top 100 creative business thinkers by Fast Company.[3]
Shahrzad’s personal vision and mandate is one of constructive professional achievement and social betterment. She strongly feels that the two concepts are not mutually exclusive.[4]
Early life
Shahrzad Rafati was born in Tehran, Iran before immigrating to Canada in 2000.[5] In 2005, she completed her B.Sc. in Computer Science at the University of British Columbia[6] and during her time there was inducted in the Golden Key International Honour Society and later served as one of the directors.[citation needed] She also studied French language at the prestigious Université Paris Sorbonne (Paris IV).[citation needed]
Career
During her tenure with Broadbandtv, Shahrzad has overseen the development of the company’s strategic vision and tactical execution and personally driven deals with Google, TELUS Communications,NBA, Warner Bros., Venevision International and other leading video production and distribution companies.
In a remarkable short time, BroadbandTV and Shahrzad have become recognizable players in the burgeoning online video industry. In addition to closing deals with content and network partners, Shahrzad has been spearheading BroadbandTV’s R&D efforts which promise to better connect/monetize online consumers and the content they are seeking on various platforms.[7]
The brainchild of Shahrzad Rafati, 'BroadbandTV named to prestigious Ready to Rocket[8][9] list, known for identifying companies with outstanding achievements in Revenue, profitability and growth. The annual list of Rocket[10] recognizes the prominent companies who have created innovative products, practices and services that are capitalizing on significant IT trends.
Her venture BroadbandTV, supported World Cancer Day with "WATCH AND GIVE" program. As a result, by watching ad-supported videos related with World Cancer Day, viewers generate donations for Cancer Research. [11]
In 2008, Rafati was named among the Top 5 Feature Entrepreneurs in the Media & Entertainment Industry by the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs of British Columbia.[12]
