The Hounds Below

The Hounds Below are an indie rock band based in Detroit, Michigan, United States and fronted by Jason Stollsteimer. In addition to instrument mainstays guitar, drums and bass guitar, members play piano, violin, viola, cello, xylophone, keyboard and trombone. The band released their first single on December 12, 2009.

History

Pre"hounds below" (2008)

The band was originally formed in 2008 after Stollsteimer wrote a group of songs dealing with his very recent separation from his high-school sweet heart of 13 years. He asked a group of close friends to come share the stage. After doing one and only show in 2008 playing under the name "jason and the hounds below", a gap of almost a year went by before changing the name of the band permanently to "the hounds below".

Formation (2009)

The band reformed in the summer of 2009, when songwriter/singer Jason Stollsteimer decided to reform the group to play a different style of music than his other band, the Von Bondies. Guitarist Ben Collins joined, followed by bass player Gjon. Various keyboard players and additional musicians have also performed with the Hounds Below, and appear on the band's first single, recorded in September 2009 by Jim Diamond at Ghetto Recorders.[2][3]

Song writing

Stollsteimer is the main song writer in the Hounds Below, same as with his other various projects. In 2008 Stollsteimer won an ascap award for writing the song "c'mon c'mon" for the hit TV show Rescue Me.
