Shahrzad Rafati is a Canadian entrepreneur and the founder of BroadbandTV Corp (BBTV) [1] headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia. Rafati founded BroadbandTV five years ago and has served as its CEO since inception. During this time she vaulted BBTV into a leadership position in the video curation/monetization space with cutting edge business models that solve major problems for the online video marketplace. She has recently been named as one of the world’s top 100 creative business thinkers by Fast Company.[3]

Shahrzad’s personal vision and mandate is one of constructive professional achievement and social betterment. She strongly feels that the two concepts are not mutually exclusive.[4]

Shahzad Rafati's commercial venture BroadbandTV began operations by offering TV entertainment in different language over the Internet. However the algorithms of Shahrzad that attracted enthusiastic response is the tracking of unauthorized online video and other visuals. She has developed computer programs, search algorithms— that scans the web for a specific content[5] and various unauthorized content. The algorithms scan the web and When they find one, BroadbandTV staff screen it for potential objectionable content and remove it, and then attach advertisements. Such exercise converts a pirated video clip posted on YouTube as a revenue-generating asset.

The most famous venture of Shahrzad Rafati, 'BroadbandTV accredited with prestigious Ready to Rocket[6][7] list, known for identifying companies with outstanding achievements in Revenue, profitability and growth. The annual list of Ready to Rocket[8] recognizes the prominent companies who have created innovative products, practices and services that are capitalizing on significant IT trends.

Early life

Shahrzad Rafati was born in Tehran, Iran.[citation needed][when?] In 2005, she completed her B.Sc. in Computer Science at the University of British Columbia.[9] She also studied French language at the prestigious Université Paris Sorbonne (Paris IV).[citation needed]

In 2008, Rafati was named among the Top 5 Feature Entrepreneurs in the Media & Entertainment Industry by the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs of British Columbia.[17]
