Jagannath Temple in Ranchi was built by Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo, king of Barkagarh Jagannathpur, on 25th December 1691. The temple is similar to the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri, Orissa, although smaller. Similar to the Rath Yatra in Puri, annual fair is held at this temple as well attracting thousands of devotees.
The temple collapsed on 6th August 1990. The reconstruction was started on 8th February 1992 and is still continuing.
