Paul LeVota is a life-long resident of Independence, Missouri. He has been married to his college sweetheart, Nancy, since 1992. Paul is the father of two daughters, Meghan, sixteen years old and Madeline, fourteen years old. The LeVotas live in the Tomashaw subdivision in Independence.
LeVota represents Missouri’s 52nd District. This district includes southeast [[Independence, Missouri|Independence]], parts of South Kansas City, [[Unity Village, Missouri|Unity Village]], and parts of [[Lee’s Summit, Missouri|Lee’s Summit]]. LeVota was first elected in 2002 and then re-elected in 2004 and 2006.


In the summer of 2007, LeVota was unanimously elected by his peers to serve as the House Democratic Leader. As the highest ranking member of his party, LeVota is responsible for working with majority and minority leadership in formulating policy, developing strategy and generating support for legislative priorities in the House of Representatives.

Representative LeVota has also served as House Assistant Democratic Leader and member of the House Budget Committee the Utilities Committee, the Homeland Security & Veteran Affairs Committee, and the Appropriations for Education Committees. LeVota has mainly concentrated on issues relating to public education, government accountability, and constituent outreach.


LeVota was awarded the “Best New Legislator of the Year” by the Show Me Council for Responsibility and Accountability in Government. He has also received “The Hero for Healthcare Award” from the AFT Healthcare Midwest, and was named the “Defender of Patient’s Safety” from Missouri Watch Coalition. He then received a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Communications and Political Science from [[University of Central Missouri|Central Missouri State University]] in [[Warrensburg, Missouri]]. LeVota was a member of [[Sigma Phi Epsilon]] fraternity and held many leadership roles at CMSU, including Student Body Vice President. Later, he received a Masters of Science in Management from [[Baker University]] in [[Overland Park, Kansas]].

Before being elected to the Missouri General Assembly, Paul worked for Sprint in the area of training and development. He is currently the COO of Second Scoop Enterprises LLC, the company that owns and operates the Greater Kansas City area Cold Stone Creamery Locations.
While still in college, LeVota was elected to the Jackson County Democratic Committee from Blue Township, Sub-District Eight. Since that time he was chosen to serve on the Missouri State Democratic Committee where he worked to promote several candidates, including [[Mel Carnahan]], [[Bob Holden]], and [[Jay Nixon]]. He served on both the Legislative Affairs and Candidate Recruitment Committee for the party.
