Brother Alois (né Alois Löser) ( born *June 1956) in Bayern, Germany is the Prior of the Taizé Community who succeeded Brother Roger after the latter's death on August 16 2005
Biography
Brother Alois was born in 1954 in Bavaria, of Czechoslovakian parents and raised in Stuttgart.
In 1974, Brother Alois, then only 19 years old, became a member of the Taizé Community, after having visited several times. Brother Alois is a Catholic, in contrast to his Protestant predecessor, Brother Roger. Brother Alois was chosen as Br. Roger's successor in 1998. He became prior of the community after the death of Brother Roger in 2005. In the last years, Alois has represented the community in numerous protests and has given a large number of interviews. He was also known for his musical activities. Numerous songs penned by him are sung throughout the world today.
