"Make Me Wanna Die"
Song
B-side"Zombie"

"Make Me Wanna Die" a song recorded by American alternative rock band The Pretty Reckless. The song was written by Taylor Momsen, Kato Khandwala, Ben Phillips, and produced by Khandwala for their debut studio album, Light Me Up (2010). It was released on March 30, 2010 in the United States, as the band's debut single. The intro of the song features a reworked sample of Abba's song Lay All Your Love On Me.

Background

In 2010, The song was used during the end credits of Kick-Ass and also appears on the film's soundtrack. Also in 2010, the song was used during the second season trailer of The Vampire Diaries. On November 5, 2010, The song was used during the ninth episode of Gossip Girl's fourth season, "The Witches of Bushwick". It was playing when Jenny (Taylor's character) as "Serena" pulled the curtain down to reveal Blair and Chuck talking together.

Critical reception

Nick Levine of Digital Spy Blog gave the song a positive review stating:

Serious Music Fans, prepare to sneer like Kenneth Williams when Babs let out a silent 'n' deadly in his dressing room... The Pretty Reckless are a New York rawk band fronted by a 16-year-old teen TV star whose debut single has been lifted from the soundtrack to an action flick written by Jonathan Ross's wife. Who says punk is dead?

Thing is though, 'Make Me Wanna Die' is actually a bit of a blast. To be precise, it's a great big slab of angsty grunge-pop with a screechalong chorus, some nice jaggedy guitar riffs and production as glossy/grungey as its singer's peroxide blonde dye job. As for that singer - Taylor Momsen, name fans - well, she gives good enough 'tude here to suggest those Serious Music Fans might just be cutting off their sneering gear..[1]

Music video

A promotional video was released which features live performances and backstage footage of the band. That particular video is considered the viral version and premiered on the band's YouTube Vevo page on May 13, 2010.[2] The official music video, which was postponed due to legal issues involving censorship, was released September 15, 2010 on iTunes in the US. The video was directed by Meiert Avis.
