In December 22 of 1919 the island was declared Insular Forest of Puerto Rico, under the authority if the Forest Law (law #22) During 1945 to 1955 Mona island was leased to the USA Air Force as military exercise area. After 1941 the island has been used for hunting sport and for camping.
