Rick J. Caruso was L.A. Business Journal's "Developer of the Year," and Conejo Valley's "Man of the Year." Caruso was honored by the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) with it's annual EDDY Award for "for his unwavering commitment to L.A. County through his philanthropic contributions, civic engagement, and economic leadership." [1]

Rick J. Caruso served as President of the Police Commission for the City of Los Angeles [2], and as a Commissioner for the Department of Water and Power (DWP). At the time of his appointment to the DWP Commission he was the youngest Commissioner in the history of the Los Angeles.[3]

Caruso is involved in philanthropic work throughout Los Angeles including at Para Los Ninos which provides education and child development services to neighborhoods in Southern California.[4] The organization renamed one of its child development centers the Tina and Rick Caruso Child Development Center "in their honor to acknowledge the[ir] generosity". [5]

As a developer, Caruso has created a portfolio of properties in Southern California and lectures on real estate. He has lectured on real estate issues at the Kennedy School of Public Administration at Harvard University, the University of Southern California School of Policy, Planning, and Development, Lusk Center for Real Estate Development at the University of Southern California, and the Urban Land Institute. He participates annually as a guest panelist for the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and is a Trustee of ICSC [6] . Mr. Caruso is also a member of the Urban Land Institute and International Council of Shopping Centers.

Rick Caruso is involved in numerous community organizations and is a member of the following: • Trustee, University of Southern California School of Policy, Planning and Development[7] • Board of Directors, California Medical Center Foundation • Pepperdine School of Law Board of Visitors [8] • National Institute of Transplantation[9] • Trustee Saint John’s Hospital[10]

Mr. Caruso received a Bachelor of Science Degree with honors from the University of Southern California in 1980[11], and graduated from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1983 with his Juris Doctor degree.

Rick Caruso is considering a run for mayor of Los Angeles in 2013.[12]
