Paul Fenton (born 4 July 1946, Huddersfield, Yorkshire) is a drummer best known for his work with the band T. Rex. After leaving his band Christie[1] he started playing drums for T.Rex in 1973, after being recommended to Marc Bolan by his producer Tony Visconti. He features on the gate-fold album inner sleeve in a number of the 'polaroid' photographs which decorate the inside. He also toured shortly with Marc Bolan & T.Rex in 1974 & plays additional drums with Davy Lutton on the songs 'Solid Baby', 'Funky London Childhood', and 'Visions Of Domino'.
The drummer also played in Carmen, a progressive rock band with a flamenco focus.[2] The band released three albums from 1973 to 1975.
Fenton, along with Mickey Finn helped form a T.Rex tribute band in 1997 going by the name of Mickey Finn's T-Rex. Even after the death of Finn in 2003, he continued to play drums for the band which now performs simply as T-Rex today, to the dismay of a growing number of T.Rex fans.
Paul Fenton grew up on Crackenedge Lane in Dewsbury in the Industrial West Riding of Yorkshire. From 1963 until 1965 he played drums in a local 4 piece band, Tony Jay and the Jesters,they became popular around the Church Hall and Town Hall dance circuit in the local area, playing the "Merseybeat Style" R&B music popular at that style.
